Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) strategy
In November 2024, SAIT celebrated the fourth anniversary of launching its Equity, Diversity and Inclusion strategy. Students and employees share the positive impact the strategy is having on campus.
Access and success
- Technical solution developed to collect, protect, synchronize and report on more accurate demographic data
- Certificate of Recognition created to acknowledge graduates of the Inclusive Post-Secondary Education Program
Campus climate
- Five Inclusion, Diversity, Equity and Accessibility (IDEA) Groups on campus
- 91% of employees agree SAIT continually strives to be inclusive (+2% as compared to 2020)
Viability and engagement
- Request for Proposal (RFP) process updated to include equity, diversity and inclusion criteria
- Relaunched the institutional SAIT Accessibility Committee
- Two policies and procedures updated using the Equity Framework
Education and scholarship
- Launched the Dimensions Research Working Group in Applied Research and Innovation Services (ARIS)
- 1187 completions of intercultural classroom micro-learning modules
- Automate the use of preferred names and pronouns in SAIT applications
- Collect more accurate demographic information from students and employees
- Strengthen the focus on equity, diversity and inclusion in the research enterprise
- Continue to support the creation of SAIT’s Truth and Reconciliation Strategy

SAIT is located on the traditional territories of the Niitsitapi (Blackfoot) and the people of Treaty 7 which includes the Siksika, the Piikani, the Kainai, the Tsuut’ina and the Îyârhe Nakoda of Bearspaw, Chiniki and Goodstoney.
We are situated in an area the Blackfoot tribes traditionally called Moh’kinsstis, where the Bow River meets the Elbow River. We now call it the city of Calgary, which is also home to the Métis Nation of Alberta.
