The Medical Office Assistant and Unit Clerk Dual-Credit program combines essential administrative skills with hands-on clinical experience, preparing you for a dynamic career in healthcare.

You'll gain proficiency in medical office procedures, chart management, billing, health information law, and the latest client care software. With an unpaid practicum in a healthcare facility, you'll acquire real-world experience in both office and clinical settings. Graduates are well-equipped for roles like medical office assistant and unit clerk in hospitals, doctor's offices, and other healthcare environments.

  • conflict-resolution skills to deal effectively with the sometimes-difficult behaviours of people in distress
  • the ability to maintain accuracy while multitasking or working under pressure
  • a mature attitude toward the human body, wellness and disease processes • the ability to work independently or as part of a team
  • the ability to type 30 words per minute (wpm)
  • to be comfortable sitting for long periods.
  • you should enjoy dealing with people, be comfortable using different types of computers and tech, and like compiling and organizing information.

Program length

This offering takes place over a full academic year, with a practicum in July (Sept. – July).

Admission requirements

In order to be successful in this SAIT dual-credit offering, students should be in their grade 11 or 12 years of high school and need to be on track to successfully pass the following course(s) or equivalent(s) with an overall average of at least 60%:

  • English Language Arts 30-1 or 30-2.
There may be other pre-requisite or co-requisites required by the school board for admission into this dual-credit program. Check with your local school board for further information.
