Before you start
There will be four components to your application:
- the application form
- a copy of your academic transcript and your current resume
- one academic reference
- selection interview
Ensure you set aside enough time to complete these documents before the application deadline.
Application and selection process
Before starting your application, you should confirm you meet the following eligibility criteria. At the time of your application, you must be:
- a full-time SAIT student
- 18 years of age or older
- in good academic standing
- finished at least one semester of your SAIT program
- eligible to gain entry to the host country*.
*Students who are not Canadian citizens or permanent residents can still apply. However, they must ensure they are eligible to enter the host country before applying.
Each study abroad program may also have specific eligibility/application requirements. To find program-specific requirements, see available study-abroad programs.

Reference the following guide to complete your study abroad application form.
Begin study abroad application form
Within this section, you must provide accurate personal information, which will be used to contact you and book travel arrangements if selected.
Your passport will need to be valid for at least six months from the end date of the study abroad program for you to be able to participate. You will still be eligible if you do not meet this requirement at the application stage, but you must obtain a new passport at your own expense upon confirmation of participation.
Here, you should specify the SAIT school (faculty), program, and program type in which you are currently enrolled.
You may select up to three study abroad programs to apply to in this section.
You must upload the following documents in .pdf or .doc format into this section:
- Current resume.
- Unofficial transcript (photo or download from mySAIT is accepted).
- Completed academic reference form from a SAIT instructor.
Then, you must provide the following information in 500 words or less.
- Introduce yourself: This should include your career goals, extracurricular activities, interests, hobbies and previous travel experience.
- Expression of interest: Consider why you are applying for this program and share what you hope to learn by participating in this study abroad opportunity.
Here, you should provide the information of the person(s) SAIT should contact in case of an emergency during a study abroad program. This information will be retained on file if selected and used in an emergency, so please ensure it is accurate.
Once you have completed all necessary sections of the application form, complete the disclaimer, mark all pages as complete and submit the form.
Selection interview
Those considered to have most closely met the selection criteria will be contacted for a panel interview.
At this interview, you'll be asked to make a short elevator pitch (one to two minutes) to persuade the panel of your suitability to participate in the program. You'll also be asked a series of interview questions.
During the interview, we'll be looking for students who have the following skills and abilities:
Academic and professional leadership
- Able to explain the advantages of participating in a program from their perspective
- Have achieved an acceptable level of academic performance
- Demonstrate competent oral and written communication skills
- Demonstrate a professional work ethic in industry and the classroom
Personal skills
- Present themselves as credible professionals and SAIT ambassadors
- Show respect for others and cultural differences
- Are proven team players in the classroom and workplace
- Demonstrate leadership ability
- Display awareness and understanding of current social, economic and political issues in Canada
- Demonstrate achievement in areas other than career and academics (for example, volunteer work or team sports.)
We aim to inform all applicants, in writing, of the selection decision within a week of the interview. However, this isn't always possible, depending on the number of applicants.
If you are selected to participate in a study abroad program, you'll be asked to confirm your participation in writing and by providing an electronic copy of your passport picture page.
