Our goal

Through hosting the mental health symposium, we hope to spread the message that everyone on the SAIT campus has the capacity to contribute to the resiliency of SAIT students.

In showcasing the innovative work already being championed, knowledge can be shared, ideas launched, and new partnerships developed. Let’s celebrate our investment in student success and wellbeing by discovering how to continue furthering our impact as a thriving campus community.

What is resilience?

Student resilience is dynamic. Yes, it’s the sum of a student’s capacity to manage stress and to grow and adapt to challenges. But it’s a process that’s determined and facilitated just as much by a student’s environment as individual factors.

If we define resilience as a process where multiple systems come together collaboratively to help students regain, sustain, or improve their mental wellbeing when challenged by one or more risk factors (Ungar, date), our capacity to influence grows. Caring campus communities foster student resilience, and student resilience supports student success – both inside and outside the classroom.

Oki, Âba wathtech, Danit'ada, Tawnshi, Hello.

SAIT is located on the traditional territories of the Niitsitapi (Blackfoot) and the people of Treaty 7 which includes the Siksika, the Piikani, the Kainai, the Tsuut’ina and the Îyârhe Nakoda of Bearspaw, Chiniki and Goodstoney.

We are situated in an area the Blackfoot tribes traditionally called Moh’kinsstis, where the Bow River meets the Elbow River. We now call it the city of Calgary, which is also home to the Métis Nation of Alberta.
