Julie Egers, SAIT Counsellor

I received a Master’s degree in Applied Psychology from the University of Calgary and became a Registered Psychologist in 2007. I started my career working internationally with the United Nation’s International Labour Organization, looking at different employment models for individuals with a range of disabilities. I came back to Calgary with the plan to sell my things and go back to working abroad— then I took a short-term position at the University of Calgary, and that’s when I discovered my passion for working in post-secondary. There is no greater honour than working alongside students pursuing their goals, and that’s what has kept me passionate about working within SAIT’s Student Development and Counselling since 2013.

As a psychologist, I am a generalist who strives to meet students where they are by creating a counselling space that is open and free from judgment. I do have specializations in the areas of stress and anxiety, mood, life transitions/adjustment, communication/boundaries, trauma and grief.

Outside of work, I am a busy mom of three. I love hiking with my dog, cross-country skiing and swimming. I grew up in the Maritimes and always try to get home to be with family once a year.

SAIT is located on the traditional territories of the Niitsitapi (Blackfoot) and the people of Treaty 7 which includes the Siksika, the Piikani, the Kainai, the Tsuut’ina and the Îyârhe Nakoda of Bearspaw, Chiniki and Goodstoney.

We are situated in an area the Blackfoot tribes traditionally called Moh’kinsstis, where the Bow River meets the Elbow River. We now call it the city of Calgary, which is also home to the Métis Nation of Alberta.
