Life at SAIT

Kelley joined SAIT in September 2021 as the Research and Instruction Librarian in the Reg Erhardt Library. Her role focuses on teaching information literacy skills to students in multiple program areas and assisting faculty with scholarly activity projects through one-on-one support and group training on topics such as literature reviews, citation management, scholarly publishing, and research data management.

Education

Kelley earned a Bachelor of Humanities and Master of Arts in English Literature from Carleton University in Ottawa, Ontario, before completing a Master of Information in Library and Information Science from the University of Toronto in 2013.

As a committed lifelong learner, Kelley has pursued professional development and continuing education opportunities throughout her career. Most recently, she completed a Professional Certificate in e-Learning from the University of Calgary and the Evidence Synthesis Institute from the US Institute of Museum and Library Services in 2022 and individual courses in digital repository infrastructure, copyright management, and usability testing in libraries from 2021-2024.

Professional accomplishments

Kelley’s career path has centered on information literacy instruction and scholarly research, with a focus on information-seeking and publishing. She has continuously contributed to the academic library community through service to professional organizations and peer-reviewed journals, including:

  • The Scholarly Communications Working Group for the Council of Prairie of and Pacific University Libraries (COPPUL), a consortium of academic libraries of which SAIT is an affiliate member, 2023-2025;
  • Member and Chair of the Learning and Development Committee for the Alberta Association of Academic Libraries (AAAL), 2020-2022;
  • Evidence Summary Writer for Evidence-Based Library & Information Practice, 2016-2019.

As of 2024, Kelley’s most recent accomplishment is acceptance into the 2024-2025 Institute for Research Design in Librarianship (IRDL) program, funded by the US Institute of Museum and Library Services and facilitated through Loyola Marymount University in California, which offers comprehensive training in library science research through a 10-day online workshop followed by year-long mentorship and support. In collaboration with the Reg Erhardt Library’s Coordinator of Information Literacy and Instruction, she will be leading a research project addressing the assessment of source evaluation skills of first-year Communication students across multiple programs at SAIT.
