Academic Advising frequently asked questions

As many may know, sait.ca has a wealth of information to help you during your studies. However, we understand that information can be hard to find from time to time.

Below are links to some common questions that your advisor may or may not be able to help with.

SAIT Early Alert Program

Sometimes, you'll hit a bump in the road, but you are on the path to success in post-secondary. Whether the bump is academic, personal or just a feeling that something's off, SAIT has a community of support resources that can help.

Early Alert is a referral system that can take place anytime during your time at SAIT. It's a way for your instructors to connect you to the right support before little bumps in the road turn into something bigger.

This supportive process is designed to make sure you have all the tools necessary to be as successful as possible during your time at SAIT.

Students supported by an Early Alert system are also less likely to be on academic probation and more likely to improve their academic performance and overall well-being.

If you have questions about the program, contact us by email at early.alert@sait.ca.

If an instructor, staff member, or even a friend notices that you may be struggling, they can fill out the Early Alert Referral Form.

You can also fill out the form yourself! Just leave the ‘referrer information’ section blank.

After a referral, you'll hear from academic advising by email with some common resources and an invitation to book in with an advisor. If we don't hear from you, we'll try contacting you by phone if that is a better way to get a hold of you!

The appointment is your time to talk and ask questions. We'll listen and connect you to the right resources. After we meet, we'll email you a list of the resources we discussed and any additional information we think might be useful. We'll check in to ensure you have all the support you need.

Early Alert is entirely confidential and governed by the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FOIP). Referrals will never negatively impact your academic record or show on your transcripts.

SAIT is located on the traditional territories of the Niitsitapi (Blackfoot) and the people of Treaty 7 which includes the Siksika, the Piikani, the Kainai, the Tsuut’ina and the Îyârhe Nakoda of Bearspaw, Chiniki and Goodstoney.

We are situated in an area the Blackfoot tribes traditionally called Moh’kinsstis, where the Bow River meets the Elbow River. We now call it the city of Calgary, which is also home to the Métis Nation of Alberta, Region 3.
