Life at SAIT

The subjects Greg teaches most often for the pipe trades programs include math, science, drawings, layouts, and specifications.

Greg served as the SAIT representative on the Alberta Apprenticeship Industry Training (AIT) Steamfitter/Pipefitter committee during the course outline redevelopment from a three-year apprenticeship program to a four-year program, over the period from 2015 to 2019.

Education

Greg has his Red Seal certification for Steamfitter/Gasfitter and Plumber, plus a Bachelor of Science from the University of Calgary (’91).

Professional accomplishments

During the AIT course outline redevelopment, the same AIT committee was responsible for substantially aligning the Alberta Steamfitter/Pipefitter course outline to the corresponding Canadian Council of Directors of Apprenticeships (CCDA) Red Seal Occupational Standard (RSOS), which includes the curriculum outline for the Red Seal exam.

At the time of the outline development, the Alberta Individual Learning Module (ILM) initiative had a major transformation to a new management structure. Greg is a strong believer and supporter of the ILM initiative and has made significant contributions to the redevelopment of the new ILMs to align with the new course outlines for Steamfitter/Pipefitter ILMs, but also some of the overlapping Plumber ILMs.

Fun facts

One of Greg's preferred pastimes is alpine skiing, which he has enjoyed since his teenage years.

SAIT is located on the traditional territories of the Niitsitapi (Blackfoot) and the people of Treaty 7 which includes the Siksika, the Piikani, the Kainai, the Tsuut’ina and the Îyârhe Nakoda of Bearspaw, Chiniki and Goodstoney.

We are situated in an area the Blackfoot tribes traditionally called Moh’kinsstis, where the Bow River meets the Elbow River. We now call it the city of Calgary, which is also home to the Métis Nation of Alberta.
