Life at SAIT

Steve teaches in the BA and BBA Accounting streams and has been with SAIT since 2004.

Steve’s dedication to quality education is evident through much of the inspiring content he has introduced into current courses, including the Xero Computerized Accounting training manual and Xero Accounting Software introduced into two SAIT courses.

Education

Steve has a B.Comm in Accounting (Honours), an MBA (Distinction), and a Post-graduate Certificate in Business Research Methods. He is also a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) and is Canadian Securities Course (Honours) certified.

Professional accomplishments

Steve’s excellence in teaching has been admired and appreciated beyond SAIT through several awards, including a 2022 CPA Education Foundation Teaching Award.

He has mentored several new instructors, presented at conferences throughout North America, won several SoTL awards (including the 2014 and 2018 ACIFA SoTL Award) and published articles on topics such as the flipped assessment, PeerWise, pre-class assignments, Team-Based learning and course videos (Lightboard).

Steve’s current scholarly activity and applied research interests include the benefits for SAIT students of a virtual reality simulation curriculum he developed with Mursion. He has also raised funding through the Chartered Professional Accountants Education Foundation (CPAEF) in Alberta and the Canadian Academic Accounting Association (CAAA) to cover his scholarly activity journey costs.

Oki, Âba wathtech, Danit'ada, Tawnshi, Hello.

SAIT is located on the traditional territories of the Niitsitapi (Blackfoot) and the people of Treaty 7 which includes the Siksika, the Piikani, the Kainai, the Tsuut’ina and the Îyârhe Nakoda of Bearspaw, Chiniki and Goodstoney.

We are situated in an area the Blackfoot tribes traditionally called Moh’kinsstis, where the Bow River meets the Elbow River. We now call it the city of Calgary, which is also home to the Métis Nation of Alberta.
