Life at SAIT 

Carolyn joined the School of Business in 2024 and teaches Intermediate Accounting I and II. Known for her engaging and approachable teaching style, Carolyn inspires students to embrace the complexities of accounting and develop a deep understanding of financial principles. She is passionate about making finance accessible and impactful, utilizing real-world examples, data storytelling, and continuous improvement practices to bring accounting to life for her students.

A continuous learner herself, Carolyn emphasizes investing in personal growth and development. Quoting Warren Buffet, she reminds her students, “The best investment you can make is in yourself.”

Outside of the classroom, Carolyn is an avid traveler, having travelled to countries such as Singapore, China, and Australia. Carolyn also volunteers with organizations that help individuals realize their potential and loves experimenting with animation and video editing for educational content.

Education and certifications

Carolyn holds a Bachelor of Commerce in Accounting from the University of Ottawa, where she graduated with Cum Laude distinction. She later earned an Executive MBA from Athabasca University, with her studies focusing on enhancing business and regulatory acumen in utility organizations. Her professional designations include CPA-CMA (Chartered Professional Accountant), CIA (Certified Internal Auditor), and PMP (Project Management Professional).

Professional Accomplishments 

Carolyn’s extensive professional background spans roles in finance, auditing, and strategic management. She has served as VP Finance & CFO at CE Brands Inc., leading financial operations for a multinational consumer electronics company. Previously, she directed regulated accounting and finance at Direct Energy and managed finance improvement projects at Suncor Energy. Her early career includes consulting and audit roles at KPMG and resource revenue analysis for the Government of Alberta.

As the founder of the Finance Learning Lab, Carolyn has combined her love for education and innovation to create over 40 educational videos, demystifying accounting for non-

finance professionals. Her YouTube channel has become a valuable resource for those eager to understand finance in a practical and engaging way.

Carolyn is deeply committed to empowering others through volunteer work. She serves on the Audit Committee Board for the Calgary Catholic School District, supporting the education of over 60,000 students, and is a board member of the Alberta Chapter of Women in Communications & Technology, promoting career development and mentorship for women in the digital economy.

SAIT is located on the traditional territories of the Niitsitapi (Blackfoot) and the people of Treaty 7 which includes the Siksika, the Piikani, the Kainai, the Tsuut’ina and the Îyârhe Nakoda of Bearspaw, Chiniki and Goodstoney.

We are situated in an area the Blackfoot tribes traditionally called Moh’kinsstis, where the Bow River meets the Elbow River. We now call it the city of Calgary, which is also home to the Métis Nation of Alberta.
