Access specialized drone training in Calgary with SAIT

SAIT’s new drone Centre is an expansion within SAIT’s Applied Research and Innovation Services (ARIS) and the first of its kind in Canada.

Focused on the training, certification, research and development for heavy-lift and beyond-visual-line-of-sight Remotely-Piloted Aircraft Systems (RPAS), the Centre trains you to operate RPAS drones effectively.

Join the drone centre as a partner in flight and gain the skills necessary for effective RPAS operations, drone pilot training, maintenance and mission planning.

Hands-on drone training programs

You will complete your drone training through structured courses in RPA operation, safety and regulatory compliance, maintenance, and mission planning.

SAIT also offers programs and courses that offer certifications, validating your drone pilot skills for commercial or specific industry applications.

State-of-the-art drone training and research facilities

SAIT’s remotely-piloted aviation training Centre is made up of various indoor and outdoor drone pilot training areas, including indoor simulation rooms equipped with flight simulators for various RPAS models and even virtual reality (VR) rooms for immersive mission planning exercises. Outside, you will also find a large flight field to help you gain real-world flight practice with obstacles, target zones and different terrains to mimic operational environments.

The drone Centre is also home to a fleet of drones for training purposes, including different models and sizes to cover a wide range of applications.

You’ll have access to a well-equipped workshop with tools and equipment for hands-on maintenance and repairs, as well as an inventory of RPA components for practical repair exercises.

What else does SAIT offer?

In addition to extensive training courses and hands-on learning spaces, the Remotely Piloted Aviation Training Centre offers you opportunities to do research, network and stay certified.

A training space for testing new RPAS technologies, exploring advanced drone applications and collaboration with industry.

The Centre offers regular events, workshops and seminars with industry experts to keep trainees updated on the latest trends and technologies.

Remotely Piloted Aviation Training Centre partnerships

ARIS worked closely with SAIT’s School of Transportation for the Drone Centre and benefitted greatly from their knowledge, expertise and experiences. Not only that, through academic partnerships, SAIT worked collaboratively with remotely-piloted aircraft systems manufacturers and aviation regulatory agencies in North America and Europe.

SAIT is located on the traditional territories of the Niitsitapi (Blackfoot) and the people of Treaty 7 which includes the Siksika, the Piikani, the Kainai, the Tsuut’ina and the Îyârhe Nakoda of Bearspaw, Chiniki and Goodstoney.

We are situated in an area the Blackfoot tribes traditionally called Moh’kinsstis, where the Bow River meets the Elbow River. We now call it the city of Calgary, which is also home to the Métis Nation of Alberta.
