Springing into the Future at SAIT's Next Chapter
Spring arrived in a big way at SAIT— in the span of one week, there were two major events to celebrate. On Thursday, May 30, SAIT announced a $30-million gift made by the Taylor Family Foundation in the spirit of shared ambition and aspiration to support the now aptly named Taylor Family Campus Centre. And one week later on Thursday, June 6, SAIT welcomed donors, community leaders and friends to The Next Chapter — A Look Forward, an annual event celebrating where we’ve come and where we are headed.
“As you may have noticed, we have coined this event as The Next Chapter – A Look Forward,” said Heather Magotiaux, SAIT’s Vice President of External Relations. “It's this thrill of the unknown that ignites our creativity and fuels ambition here at SAIT. What I love about SAIT is that our students and employees dream big. You, our donors, partners and friends, bring that same passion and vision to our institution.”
The event also provided an opportunity to celebrate the achievements of the 2024 President’s Awards recipients. Jameela "Jam" Castillo received the 2024 President's Medal, while the Student Petroleum Society (SPS) and the Environmental Technology Students Organization (ETSO) received the 2024 President’s Student Leadership Awards.
“Many of the people here in the room tonight have contributed to my success, too. From donors to industry partners to the amazing SAIT alumni community, together these groups have come together in support of SAIT student success,” shared President’s Medal recipient Jameela Castillo.
“It’s thanks to the incredible team at SAIT — from instructors to staff to the industry mentors we are connected with— that we have been able to find the success that we have. This recognition means more than you could imagine not only for us but also to the entire EVT community and for future club members,” said Jess Stewart, Co-President of the Environmental Technology Students’ Organization.
“The sense of community at SAIT is very comforting,” shared Brett Trentham, President of the Student Petroleum Society. “Your classmates soon become your friends, instructors become mentors, and before you know it you’re the President of a student club promoting oil and gas in the school and have further extended your community.”
As the evening shifted focus to what lies ahead, SAIT President and CEO Dr. David Ross spoke on an exciting future for the institution.
"This year, it is all about looking forward. Sometimes, that is hard to do, particularly when change is occurring at the pace it is. We are in a period of evolution and transition. What we wrote yesterday changes just as fast as we move into tomorrow,” he said. “This means we must continually be on the cusp of change. Proactively anticipating the needs of our industry partners and students, making sure they're equipped with the skills to thrive out in the world."
Thank you to our generous sponsors.
