From a financial literacy expert with a computer engineering background who co-founded two companies dealing with cryptocurrencies to a supply chain specialist whose career has taken him around the world, SAIT’s School of Business instructors are as varied as they are experienced.

What they have in common is a singular drive to arm students with the knowledge and practical skills needed to embark on successful careers right from graduation.

“You want to see people reach their full potential,” says Megan Glancey, a School of Business instructor whose courses are part of the Bachelor of Business Administration program.

Glancey, a human resources expert who has worked for some of the largest, and best known, retail chains in the country, including Loblaws, Real Canadian Superstore and Walmart converts her real-world experience into learning opportunities for her students.

“It’s great to see students who have put in four years of work at SAIT and they get that job and get to connect the dots and transition to that professional environment.”

SAIT’s diverse instructors with their wealth of industry-honed expertise, along with the institution’s impressive graduate employment rate and global reputation as a destination school, are among the reasons the School of Business earned a spot on the coveted CEOWORLD Magazine’s list of Best Business Schools in the World for 2021, joining only two other Canadian institutions, the University of Toronto and McGill University.

“This recognition really demonstrates how valuable it is to have instructors coming from industry,” says Janet Segato, Dean, SAIT School of Business. “Our education model is built around applied learning, and our instructors are people who’ve had boots on the ground, who can introduce our students to the ins-and-outs of working in industry so they can graduate and make an impact.”

From individual courses to the bachelor degree program, SAIT’s School of Business instructors deliver cutting-edge programming that inspire learners to become leaders.

“The best part of this job is passing on the skills and experience I’ve acquired over my 35-year career. It’s paying it forward,” says Gerry Duffy, an instructor with extensive global experience working in supply chain and logistics for organizations from the United Kingdom’s Royal Air Force to Canadian Pacific Railway.

Fellow instructor Harry Vadalkar brings not only a passion for finance and extensive knowledge in the intersection between financial services and digital technology to the School of Business, but also the crucial perspective of a racialized minority who recognizes the gaps in the area of financial literacy.

“Being a first-generation immigrant, I want to help by sharing my knowledge to help alleviate this problem,” he says.

Meanwhile, Olayemi Olabiyi shares his economics expertise and interest in food insecurity in developing countries with students. From the time he was an undergraduate student in Nigeria, he knew he wanted to teach. At SAIT, he is fulfilling his dream, while sharing his depth of knowledge in the classroom and adding his own understanding of concepts to help students see the deeper meaning of what they are learning.

It’s one more way SAIT’s School of Business is going above and beyond to get the next generation of business leaders prepared.

Says Segato, “Our instructors not only come from industry, but global industries — and our students benefit from this experience. They get real-world training and graduate with a credential from an institution with global distinction. It becomes their passport to the world.
