Jim Szautner has more than a decade of leadership experience in post-secondary education and holds a Master of Education in Adult Learning from the University of Calgary. His long list of expertise includes career development, operations management, coaching and program evaluation. He also prides himself on being a champion of inclusive apprenticeship education and supporting skilled trades at all levels.

Since joining SAIT in 2009, Jim’s spent time as an Academic Chair, Associate Dean and Dean. One of his most notable achievements at SAIT is championing the development of a summer camp to encourage youth to explore careers in the trades and technologies.  

Jim has served as past chair of the National Council of Deans for Apprenticeship, Trades and Technology, as a board member with the Canadian Apprenticeship Forum and member of the Alberta Deans of Apprenticeship and Trades. He represents SAIT on the Skills Alberta Board of Directors.

In 2016, Jim was named one of Avenue Magazine’s Top 40 Under 40.

SAIT is located on the traditional territories of the Niitsitapi (Blackfoot) and the people of Treaty 7 which includes the Siksika, the Piikani, the Kainai, the Tsuut’ina and the Îyârhe Nakoda of Bearspaw, Chiniki and Goodstoney.

We are situated in an area the Blackfoot tribes traditionally called Moh’kinsstis, where the Bow River meets the Elbow River. We now call it the city of Calgary, which is also home to the Métis Nation of Alberta.
