With a focus on technological advances and disruption to push the construction industry toward greater sustainability, Dr. Azzeddine Oudjehane has brought his passion for innovation to SAIT for the last decade, training the next generation through the Bachelor of Science in Construction Project Management program. He is an expert in applied education and research related to mass timber and leads initiatives bridging the skills gap for sustainability and mass timber construction.

Applied research addressing the needs and challenges of industry has been a fundamental part of his career, working for the University of British Columbia, Simon Fraser University and BCIT before moving to Alberta.

For more than 20 years, Oudjehane has also been a principal consultant with AZZO and Associates, offering his expertise in research and development and business and market development for construction and building materials.

Oudjehane has a bachelor's degree in civil-hydraulics engineering and earned his master's and doctorate degrees in applied science at the Université Blaise Pascale in France and a graduate diploma in business administration from Simon Fraser University.

He has held numerous elected positions as a board member for professional associations such as Value Analysis Canada and the Canada Green Building Council. Oudjehane also serves on editorial review boards and committees at several peer-reviewed journals.

Awards and achievements:

  • Nominated for a SAIT Students’ Association Teaching Excellence Award in 2014, 2019 and 2020
  • Honourable mention for an Inspired Educator Leadership Award from the Alberta Chapter of the Canada Green Building Council in 2019

International experience:

  • Led infrastructure projects in North Africa and multi-disciplinary research and development projects in Europe
  • Chaired sessions at a variety of international conferences and delivered keynote addresses at workshops and conferences
  • Led an ERASMUS + Partnership project on sustainable mass timber construction

SAIT is located on the traditional territories of the Niitsitapi (Blackfoot) and the people of Treaty 7 which includes the Siksika, the Piikani, the Kainai, the Tsuut’ina and the Îyârhe Nakoda of Bearspaw, Chiniki and Goodstoney.

We are situated in an area the Blackfoot tribes traditionally called Moh’kinsstis, where the Bow River meets the Elbow River. We now call it the city of Calgary, which is also home to the Métis Nation of Alberta.
