1. To begin, navigate to the _sait.ca (news) site and select the applicable year and month, or Link news folder.
  2. Select Add Content, then Post.
  3. Add the Page Name and Title.
    • Page name: This is the URL. This should be in kabob-case — for example, “news-story-name". Make sure no special characters are used — remove commas, punctuation, etc.)
    • Title: The text that will show as the browser bar title as well as the page title.
  4. Add in the Summary: This is equivalent to the abstract and metadata fields.
  5. If the story has an Author, add it in.
  6. Set Start Date field: This is the publish date of your story.
  7. Select the "Two Column" option for the layout.
  8. Add categorization to your story.
    • There are many different tags to choose from — the more tags added to a story, the more places it will be seen on the site. For example, if a story is about the School of Business and select associated programs, tag the story with both the school tag and the program tags. This will pull the story onto the School of Business landing page and the program pages.
  9. Add thumbnail image: See Images and documents. Image size should be 730 x 485 pixels, named "nw-xxx-xxx-filesize.jpg" (i.e., nw-dr-ross-smiling-730x485.png), and placed in Assets > News > Year (of the story post) > Month (of the story post).
  10. In the main content section, add your image from #9 and if you have an image caption, go to the Advanced tab in the Insert/Edit Image option, then tick the "Use figure and figcaption for this image" option. Add your caption in the caption box. Add the main text of your story right after the image.
  11. You may add additional sections, if needed, for formatting, blocks, or for breaks in content. If you are not using the additional section, you will need to change the Type to "Inline" and the Content type to "Inline" — you don't need to enter any text.
  12. In the first sidebar row, select Type > Related posts. Select the appropriate categories you selected in # 7.
  13. Add an additional sidebar row. Select Type > Social Media. Select either the SAIT Social Media Links or Alumni Social Media Links block.
  14. Once you've completed a final review, click submit to workflow for approval.

Categorizing stories appropriately

Unsure what categories to tag your story with? Use the below as a guide:

Categories

Stories do not need to be tagged with a category from all of the following subsections. However, an article with no news category should have a LINK category. Additionally, you can tag a story with multiple categories from the same bucket - for example, a story could be considered tech and innovation and thought leadership.

News

  • Community: general interest stories for our local community, excluding student life and alumni-focused articles. Avoid things with a strong industry audience and content marketing focus. Articles should speak to everyone and not just one audience.
  • Donors: Stories about donors or with a donor focus.
  • Partnerships: Stories about SAIT partnerships, usually with industry.
  • SAIT Faces: Stories with SAITFaces in the headline text. Profile members of the SAIT community.
  • Student Life: Articles only relevant to students. Should be helpful content such as study tips, exam prep, spotlight on services, etc.
  • Tech and Innovation: Stories about our digital technology programs and innovation from ARIS.
  • Thought Leadership: Articles written by SAIT leaders.
  • ConEd: Stories related to programming specifically for our continuing education learners, or topics of interest to them. All articles from ConEd Magazine are tagged with this.

Strat plan

Tagging stories with any of these categories will feed the story into the corresponding strategic plan pillar page, and a graphic will be created at the bottom of the article.

Should the story relate to any of the work we're doing as part of our strategic plan, use the appropriate category.

  • Commitment to Excellence
  • Global Perspective
  • Industry Driven
  • Learning for Life
  • New World. New Thinking.
  • Skills for the Future

Feed categories (don't forget 🚨)

Feed categories send stories to areas throughout the rest of sait.ca. In most instances, a story should have at least one feed category assigned.

Programs

If the story is about or includes students from SAIT's credit programs, tag the programs here. The story will then appear on the program page(s) overview tab.

If a program is missing from the list, contact site.feedback@sait.ca to have it added.

Oki, Âba wathtech, Danit'ada, Tawnshi, Hello.

SAIT is located on the traditional territories of the Niitsitapi (Blackfoot) and the people of Treaty 7 which includes the Siksika, the Piikani, the Kainai, the Tsuut’ina and the Îyârhe Nakoda of Bearspaw, Chiniki and Goodstoney.

We are situated in an area the Blackfoot tribes traditionally called Moh’kinsstis, where the Bow River meets the Elbow River. We now call it the city of Calgary, which is also home to the Métis Nation of Alberta.
