Content contributors have the option to classify stories, events and blocks within the CMS to help tailor content to a specific audience, for example, current students.

Multiple categories within each category subset can be assigned in order to send content to multiple different locations.

For example, a story can be tagged with the audience "current students, parents and supporters, future students" as well as the school "macphail school of energy" as well as the news category "innovation, community".

Categories are most often used for stories, events and programs.

Types of categories

  • Universal/feed categories
  • News categories
  • Event categories

Universal/feed categories

Audience: Identifies the targeted users the content on that page is for, including groups of people and departments. This category serves to feed content to other areas within sait.ca. For example, a news story or events tagged as “Current Students” will be filtered to the Current Students section on pages that have a story list or event block within it.

Schools: Used to feature programs/stories/events in the school sections. This category is a subset of the above category, however, is also used to classify programs and create school-specific program lists.

Programs: Content contributors can use this to feed stories or events to specific program pages. For example, a story tagged as "civil engineering technology" and "architectural technologies" would appear on both program pages.

Event categories

Used for events only and classifies events based on type (for example, information session, workshop, webinar, etc.), venue (campus buildings and online options) and organizer (schools and departments).

Note: If your venue or organizer is not available in the drop-down list, please get in touch with site.feedback@sait.ca

News categories

Used for news posts only and classifies news stories based on type.

News: classifies and filters the story to particular subject areas, including community, current students, donors, international, partnerships, SAIT Faces, SAIT Update, Student Life or Technology and Innovation.

LINK: categories are for use with LINK Magazine story posts only and will filter the stories to the LINK Magazine stories page.

Strat Plan: used to identify the story as related to one of the pillars of our strategic plan, and will feed the story to the corresponding Strategic Plan page.

Use the feed categories to classify news stories so they will be featured on department, school or program pages.

SAIT is located on the traditional territories of the Niitsitapi (Blackfoot) and the people of Treaty 7 which includes the Siksika, the Piikani, the Kainai, the Tsuut’ina and the Îyârhe Nakoda of Bearspaw, Chiniki and Goodstoney.

We are situated in an area the Blackfoot tribes traditionally called Moh’kinsstis, where the Bow River meets the Elbow River. We now call it the city of Calgary, which is also home to the Métis Nation of Alberta.
