Black History Month Documentary Review of Deeply Rooted

Join hosts Hugh Baker, Communications Coordinator, and Efua Ukuwelah, Registarial Specialist from the Office of The Registrar, for an insightful conversation as we watch the 23-minute documentary Deeply Rooted.

The film explores the story of Cazhhmere's experience of being a seventh-generation black Canadian and her family's history as some of the first black settlers to come to Canada. Although Cazhhmere has a rich and deep history, she is frequently asked about her place of origin.

Our hosts will draw from their lived experiences to shed light on this common questioning when meeting new people. The discussion will feature a question-and-answer segment and popcorn for you to enjoy during the viewing.

SAIT is located on the traditional territories of the Niitsitapi (Blackfoot) and the people of Treaty 7 which includes the Siksika, the Piikani, the Kainai, the Tsuut’ina and the Îyârhe Nakoda of Bearspaw, Chiniki and Goodstoney.

We are situated in an area the Blackfoot tribes traditionally called Moh’kinsstis, where the Bow River meets the Elbow River. We now call it the city of Calgary, which is also home to the Métis Nation of Alberta.
