I wanted to leave a legacy behind, and leave money to something that mattered to me. I wanted to make a difference. That is why I named SAIT as a beneficiary in my will.

Giving opportunities

There are many reasons to give to SAIT — honouring a loved one, supporting a program or school you feel passionate about, emergency needs, or leaving a legacy for future generations. At the heart of every donation is the intention to positively impact a student's life and overall success.

You can help SAIT students achieve their full potential with a gift for one of the various opportunities below.

By becoming a monthly or yearly donor, you make it possible to consistently offer support to students through emergency funds, awards, projects and campaigns.

SAIT Opportunities Fund

When you choose to support the SAIT Opportunities Fund (SOF), you will be helping to provide essential support to SAIT students by funding programs and projects not covered by tuition or government assistance. This fund is dedicated to enhancing education and student life at SAIT. Examples of supported initiatives include introducing new technology to classrooms, peer support programs, student-led initiatives (Student Crowdfunding) and resources.

Kohkoms Kahsagahetin Fund ("Grandmother's Love")

Making a gift to Kohkoms Kahsagahetin Fund helps in providing emergency assistance for Indigenous students facing unforeseen financial crisis. With a referral from advisors or mentors, Indigenous students can receive one-time support to help cover the cost of essential needs, such as grocery cards and utility payments.

I.G. Lewis Student Emergency Fund

I.G. Lewis Student Emergency Fund is one of the key beneficiaries of the Annual Giving program. It offers short-term assistance to SAIT students facing financial crises that threaten their ability to complete their studies. By contributing to this fund, donors help ensure that students receive the necessary resources to overcome unexpected challenges. This program not only supports academic achievements but also strengthens the overall community by showing a commitment to student well-being and success.

Crowdfunding at SAIT

Crowdfunding campaigns are student-led and feature current student projects seeking financial support, such as capstone projects, study abroad opportunities, participation in conferences or competitions and student club activities with academic significance.

Your contributions to crowdfunding campaigns go towards costs not covered by traditional funding sources and often provide opportunities for students they would not otherwise be able to afford. Your support continues to help connect people to projects and unleashes innovation.

Examples of recent projects:

  • SAIT Supernovas raised $2,500 in funds to participate in the Canadian Reduced Gravity Experiment Challenge (CAN-RGX)
  • SAIT Electrical Engineering Technology (EET) students work to Light Up the World raised funds to install a solar power system in a remote area of Peru
  • SAIT Film and Video Production students raised funds to host screening sessions for their capstone projects.

Legacy giving

Legacy giving, also known as planned giving, refers to the act of including charitable organizations, like SAIT, in an estate plan. This type of giving allows individuals to make significant contributions while ensuring their financial and philanthropic goals are met.

A legacy gift is an extraordinary way to ensure your memory lives on — support SAIT student scholarships, new equipment, and many improvements to our campus. You will make a profound difference in the lives of future generations of SAIT students.

There are many options when considering a legacy gift:

  • A bequest in a will
  • A gift in kind (equipment, real estate)
  • Publicly traded securities
  • RRSP, RRIF or TFSA
  • Life insurance
  • Charitable annuity

A legacy gift to SAIT lets you make a bigger impact than you might have thought possible. If you have questions or would like to have a conversation about leaving a legacy gift, please contact Anthony Salekin, Associate Director, Development.

Oki, Âba wathtech, Danit'ada, Tawnshi, Hello.

SAIT is located on the traditional territories of the Niitsitapi (Blackfoot) and the people of Treaty 7 which includes the Siksika, the Piikani, the Kainai, the Tsuut’ina and the Îyârhe Nakoda of Bearspaw, Chiniki and Goodstoney.

We are situated in an area the Blackfoot tribes traditionally called Moh’kinsstis, where the Bow River meets the Elbow River. We now call it the city of Calgary, which is also home to the Métis Nation of Alberta.
