2017 Update

Stan Grad (PT '66), co-founder Grad & Walker Energy Corporation, co-founder Canyon Technical Services, founder Soderglen Ranches Ltd.

"I sold Grad & Walker in '97 because I just didn't like running a public company. I felt I was better at mentoring and initiating.

Every year, the Calgary Stampede does a poster that reflects the history of the pioneers. This year, the poster is of a pair of horses I owned that set the record in the Heavy Horse Pull in 2011.

I love the big horses. A buddy of mine that I co-founded Canyon Technical with got me into them. He taught me how to be a teamster and how to drive the horses competitively. That team on the poster pulled 13,300 pounds. Since then, I've partnered with Randy Dodge and we compete under his banner and mine."

Stan sold Grad & Walker Energy Corporation in 1997. He's formed and co-founded a number of companies since then, most notably, Canyon Technical Services, which trades on the TSX. His Soderglen Ranches Ltd. is one of the largest seedstock cattle operations in Canada. While Stan doesn't drive heavy horse teams anymore, he is a partner in a competitive heavy horse enterprise. He serves as chair for the Airdrie and Area Health Benefits Cooperative.
