Tonya Fleming is an experienced corporate lawyer and governance professional. She has acted as general counsel for three publicly traded companies. She is currently senior corporate finance counsel to the Alberta Securities Commission, the regulatory agency responsible for administering the province's securities laws.
She began practicing law with the national firm Osler, Hoskin and Harcourt LLP, where she specialized in mergers and acquisitions, securities law and corporate governance matters.
Ms. Fleming has extensive experience leading and managing all of the legal needs of public entities. In addition, with solid experience as a governance professional, she has a comprehensive understanding of the requirements and processes involved in effective board governance and oversight.
Ms. Fleming holds a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Alberta and a Bachelor of Law and Masters of Business Administration from Dalhousie University. She is a member of the Law Society of Alberta. In addition to serving on the SAIT Board of Governors, Ms. Fleming serves as a public member of counsel for the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta.

SAIT is located on the traditional territories of the Niitsitapi (Blackfoot) and the people of Treaty 7 which includes the Siksika, the Piikani, the Kainai, the Tsuut’ina and the Îyârhe Nakoda of Bearspaw, Chiniki and Goodstoney.
We are situated in an area the Blackfoot tribes traditionally called Moh’kinsstis, where the Bow River meets the Elbow River. We now call it the city of Calgary, which is also home to the Métis Nation of Alberta.
