"It’s my pleasure to officially welcome you to SAIT Downtown. This vibrant, multi-faceted facility, which includes The Tastemarket Canadian Kitchen, marks a significant milestone in SAIT’s ongoing commitment to innovation, collaboration and industry engagement."

A message from Dr. David Ross, President and CEO

New space, new future

On December 3, 2019, philanthropist, businessman and champion of change, David Bissett gifted $30 million to SAIT with a vision for the future—to advance change through technology and develop tomorrow’s talent today. This transformative donation was gifted to create a school where students could learn the digital skills they need to thrive in fast-paced and tech-savvy economies.

I see every day the importance of technology in every field. Whether it is investment management, oil and gas, or agriculture, the advances in the associated technologies are breathtaking. If we are not fully competitive in these skills in the global economy, we are doomed to be a nation falling behind.

David Bissett

Inspired by this challenge and ignited by a powerful community of advocates and supporters, SAIT’s School for Advanced Digital Technology (SADT) launched in September 2020 amid global disruption and ensuing digital adoption. SAIT’s School of Information and Communications Technologies merged with SADT in January 2022, blending existing courses with a wide range of tech-focused programs and delivering world-class talent. Fast forward to today and here we are—SAIT Downtown—a new space custom designed to house some of our most cutting-edge technologies and to drive new connections and ideas.

The success and journey of SADT has been the direct result of our donor community's generosity, advocacy and impact. What began as a vision in 2019 has become what you see now—a learning space that harnesses new technologies, inspires new ideas and unlocks potential. Welcome to SAIT Downtown, a place where Real Futures happen.

All students in all programs—career launchers and career changers, those upskilling and those reskilling—will be equipped to thrive in a digital economy.

Oki, Âba wathtech, Danit'ada, Tawnshi, Hello.

SAIT is located on the traditional territories of the Niitsitapi (Blackfoot) and the people of Treaty 7 which includes the Siksika, the Piikani, the Kainai, the Tsuut’ina and the Îyârhe Nakoda of Bearspaw, Chiniki and Goodstoney.

We are situated in an area the Blackfoot tribes traditionally called Moh’kinsstis, where the Bow River meets the Elbow River. We now call it the city of Calgary, which is also home to the Métis Nation of Alberta.
