SAIT Graduation 2012 - Frequently Asked Questions

When can I register?
Registration for Graduation 2012 is now closed. The deadline to register was April 13, 2012.

How much does it cost to register?
$35.00

What does my $35 registration fee include?
Your fee includes two guest tickets, the rental of your gown and stole or hood, and a hat, tassel, and credential holder for you to keep. There is a limit of two guest tickets per graduand to ensure all those who wish to attend can do so.

What should I wear?
There is no formal dress code for graduation as you will be wearing a black gown which will come to just below the knee. Wear a pair of dress pants or skirt as they will show below the gown, as well as shoes appropriate for a formal event.

In preparation for the ceremony you will be standing for long periods of time in crowded spaces and then you will be sitting in a full auditorium, so lighter, cooler clothing and comfortable shoes are highly recommended.

Leave your coat, purse or bag at home or with a parent or friend.  There is a coat check at the Jubilee available for a small fee.  You will not be allowed to leave your purse/bag behind the stage or at your seat, as your seat may change when you return from crossing the stage.  If you bring your bag/purse you will have to carry it with you as you cross the stage. SAIT Polytechnic and the Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium are not responsible for lost or stolen articles.

Where do I go when I arrive at the Jubilee?

  • Arrive at the North entrance to the Jubilee one hour prior to your graduation ceremony.
  • Leave your guest tickets with your guests. All guests, including infants, require a ticket.
  • You will proceed to gowning upstairs via the escalator.  There is an elevator for those who require assistance to the second floor.
  • You will fill out a graduation card with your name and program.  Please print clearly so the announcer is able to read your name correctly as you cross the stage.
  • You will then proceed to processionals at the Jubilee /ACAD walkway as soon as you have been gowned.
  • If you have guest tickets to pick up at the Ticket Booth, please instruct your guests to pick them up at the Ticket Booth giving them your SAIT ID# for reference.
  • Once you are gowned you will not be able to leave the processionals to obtain tickets to give to your guests.

How do I get extra guest tickets?

Additional guest tickets for Graduation may be available on or after May 7, 2012. To order additional guest tickets, please email graduation@sait.ca on or after May 7, 2012. Requests will be considered as tickets become available.

Additional guest tickets are not guaranteed. It is unlikely that any additional tickets will be available with your initial seats. Unfortunately, we cannot accommodate requests prior to May 7, 2012. No phone calls please.

What should I do if one of my guests or I require special consideration when being seated?

The Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium is a multi-level facility with many stairs. As such, if you or your guests have mobility difficulties and need or would like accommodated seating, please contact us as soon as possible at graduation@sait.ca and we will make arrangements to accommodate you or your guest(s) to the best of our ability.

Can my guests sit together? Is seating assigned? Can graduands sit with their guests?

Graduands will be seated with their classmates in reserved seating. Guest seating is assigned and ALL guests (including infants) MUST have a ticket to enter the auditorium. Strollers and infant carriers are not permitted in the auditorium. For persons with small children, a viewing area outside the auditorium is provided for your convenience. Children can NOT be seated with the graduands, and must be seated with another guest in the auditorium. Every attempt will be made to seat your guests together, but additional guests are likely to be seated separately.

How do I pick up the tickets?

Your confirmation package and tickets will be available for pick-up from April 23 to 27 at Student Services in MA211, Heritage Hall Building from 8:15 am to 4:30 pm on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and 9:00 am to 4:30 pm on Wednesday.

Your SAIT Student ID Card, or other photo identification, must be presented.

How long is the ceremony and do I have to stay for the entire ceremony?

Approximately 2.5 hours. We request that you stay for the entire event out of respect for your fellow graduands.

What do I need to do in order to receive my credential?

You will automatically receive your credential as you cross the stage if you have FULLY COMPLETED your requirements. To check your eligibility, please visit mySAIT.ca and view your Degree Evaluation (under the myStudent tab). If you have concerns or questions regarding your graduation status, please contact Student Services at 403.284.7248 or email advising@sait.ca. If you are not eligible to receive your credential at the time of the ceremony, you will be given a credential holder to keep as you cross the stage. Student Services will mail credentials to students who did not qualify to receive their credential at time of graduation and those who did not attend the graduation ceremony.

How do I order a copy of my official transcripts?

You can order your official transcript online at mySAIT.ca. Go to the myStudent tab, select Student Records, and choose Request an Official Transcript. A fee of $10.00 is charged for each copy of the transcript. Transcripts will be mailed to you, or to the post-secondary school you select.
