Aboriginal Programs


Oil and Gas Land Administration SAIT Polytechnic, in partnership with Alberta Employment and Immigration, Community Futures Treaty Seven and The Métis Nation of Alberta, are offering a 31-week program to train individuals as oil and gas land administrators. Land administrators are involved in the day-to-day functions of a land department. Students receive an overview of the petroleum industry and an introduction to land practices including mineral lease documentation and surface land practices. Students also receive training in office procedures, business communications and common software programs used in land administration. This is a challenging program of full-time classroom training. Classes run mainly from 1:00 pm to 8:00 pm Monday to Thursday, and from 1:00 to 4:30 PM on Fridays plus a 6-week work experience. Prerequisites: Unemployed Aboriginals, residing in Calgary who: Are Employment Insurance (EI) participants who: - Have established an EI claim (active claimant), or
- Have ended a claim for EI benefits within the previous 36 months (Reachback), or
- Have received parental or maternity benefits during the past 60 months to care for their children and are now returning to work (Reachback), or
- Are receiving provincial Income & Employment Benefits (Social Assistance), or
- Are unemployed and do not qualify for EI or Income & Employment Benefits.
- Must be ready, willing, and able to participate in training for work.
Other Pre-requisites Include: - Grade 10 or equivalent in Math and English;
- Must qualify for funding through Treaty 7 Economic Development Corporation, the Métis Nation of Alberta or Alberta Human Resources and Employment.
