Transcript Assessment (Course Credit for previous post secondary learning)

What prior learning may be considered?

The minimum acceptable grade for transfer credit is 65%.



Credit Assessment Options

1. Course Credit for Canadian Post-Secondary Prior Learning

If you attended a post-secondary institution and would like to obtain credit, provide the following documents:

  • A completed Credit Assessment form and provide 3 copies to the PLAR office. These forms are also available from the PLAR office, Heart Building MC221). (See location map.) OR phone 1- (403) 284-7025 or email plar@sait.ca and have the form faxed or emailed to you.
  • Copies of all post-secondary transcripts (65 % required to be eligible for credit),
  • Course outlines for all courses in which credit is desired to Calendar descriptions if the course outlines are unavailable.

2. Course Credit for International Post-Secondary Prior Learning

For international credit assessment, the following documents must be supplied:

  • Copies of all post-secondary transcripts (65% required to be eligible for credit)
  • Course outlines for all courses in which credit is desired or Calendar descriptions if the course outlines are unavailable.

Note: All printed materials submitted for an assessment must be translated into English by an Official Translator.


3. Partial Course Credit

Partial credit may be granted for some SAIT courses. In selected courses, if you have demonstrated competency in at least 50% of the course objectives, you may apply for partial credit. You will be required to register in the course and consult with the instructor at the beginning of instruction. Full course fees apply.

Note:If you do not successfully complete the learning contract for the portion of the course you must complete, your transcript will reflect an "F" grade.

The Prior Learning Assessment & Recognition (PLAR) office will not assess courses for credit that have been completed more than 7 years ago.

How do I apply?

You may apply for credit in three easy steps:

  1. Fill out a Credit Assessment from (available from the PLAR office, Heart Building MC221). (See location map.) OR phone 1- (403) 284-7025 or email plar@sait.ca and have the form faxed or emailed to you.
  2. Attach appropriate documentation (course outlines, transcripts, and assessment materials).


What is the deadline for application?

Assessments for credit should be completed prior to the Customer Services Drop/Add deadline.
