Obtaining the Study Permit for Study in Canada
Once you have received an acceptance letter from SAIT's Registrar, you can apply to Canadian Immigration for a Study Permit. This document is necessary for all visitors to Canada who wish to study at a school such as SAIT.
The Study Permit must be granted prior to the student entering the country. Those students already in Canada on a visitor's visa must leave Canada and re-enter with the Study Permit. If the program includes a work practicum as part of the course of studies, then the Work Permit can be given at the same time as the Study Permit or applied for prior to the commencement of the practicum.
The criteria used by Canadian Immigration officials to judge an application is normally based on three factors:
You must demonstrate the ability to support yourself financially during your program. You may be asked to bring financial documents to prove that you or your family have the necessary funds.
Since you are applying for a temporary permit to enter Canada, there must be an expectation that you will return to your home country at the end of the program.
You must be in good health and be of good character. Letters of reference may be required.
SAIT has worked with Canadian Immigration Officials to ensure that our letter of acceptance meets their requirements. This letter must reflect accurate information so it is important that you complete the SAIT application with the correct spelling of your name and the formal name of the program you intend to take.
