The Mechanical Design Technology program is focused on developing individuals that can design products for manufacture. Some of the courses for the first and second semester in this program are offered on campus and through correspondence, and can be taken before being accepted into the program. The final two semesters are available at SAIT Main Campus. Through the program students will acquire knowledge about materials, manufacturing, ergonomics, computer aided design and model making. These are delivered in a studio based environment where technical knowledge is applied to hands-on projects. Projects are often completed with industry involvement. Graduates are well versed in leading edge technologies utilized in the design and manufacturing industry. A portfolio of written work, idea sketches, prototypes and CAD drawings is developed to show potential employers the skills that have been acquired through the course of study. There is an emphasis placed on professionalism, creativity and collaboration.
