Library Operations Assistant Certificate of Achievement
SAIT.ca - Continuing Education

If you love books and libraries and would like a career in school and public libraries, the Library Operations Assistant (LOA) program is for you.  Available entirely through Distance Education, the Library Operations Assistant Certificate of Achievement will prepare you for the challenges you will face in your new career.

You are required to take the three mandatory courses:

  • LIBR-200:  Introduction to Libraries
  • LIBR-235:  Library Information Services I
  • MGMT-203:  ** Basic Library Management
  • LOA Basic Certificate of Achievement require 18 IU’s
  • LOA Advanced Certificate of Achievement require 26 IU’s

Courses are based on Instructional Units (IU’s). A student must accumulate 18 IU’s to complete the LOA Basic Level certification and 26 IU’s to complete Advanced Level certification. To complete the required number of IU’s for either level, courses may be chosen from the Library Office Assistant (LOA) and Library Information Technology (LIT) program.”,

Students have five years to complete either the Basic Level and/or the Advanced Level LOA Certificate of Achievement.

Formal application is not necessary for the LOA distance education program. Simply register on a course-by-course basis, and then apply for your certificate upon completion of the course requirements.
