Program Description The Bachelor of Business Administration (Accounting) degree, or BBA (Accounting), is an industry-recognized program designed to meet the growing demand for baccalaureate degree-level accounting professionals in southern Alberta and beyond. The BBA (Accounting) offers career-minded students the opportunity to develop the practical accounting skills and theoretical knowledge that are highly desired by employers. Areas of study include: core business and accounting courses, as well as ethics, communication, research, and more. This program differs from traditional Bachelor of Commerce degrees in that graduates will have the opportunity to complete all requisite core business and accounting courses needed to enter three professional programs: Chartered (CA), Certified General Accountant (CGA), and Certified Management Accountant (CMA). Upon graduation, students will have excellent employment prospects and will have the option to pursue graduate-level studies at other post-secondary institutions. Admission Requirements Alberta High School Diploma or equivalent with at least 70% in each of the following courses or their equivalents: Pure Math 30, English Language Arts 30-1, two courses from Group A, and one course from Group A or B. All applicants to SAIT Polytechnic must demonstrate English Language Proficiency prior to admission, including students educated in Canada. Students are required to meet additional criteria in order to gain admission into the program. Students accepted for each intake There will be 64 seats offered in the fall 2011 intake. Selection Criteria It is anticipated that this program will be in high demand. For September 2011 continuous selection will be implemented and occur every two weeks. Applicants will be academically ranked and offered seats accordingly. Qualified applicants who do not receive an offer will remain in selection until a seat becomes available. Early Admission Criteria Early admission will be offered to all qualified applicants who have achieved or will achieve a minimum overall average of 80% in the admission requirements. Positions will be offered to 90 per cent of quota. International Student Consideration International students are considered. Student Success As a baccalaureate program, the BBA (Accounting) will have a high level of academic challenge and rigour. The level of course difficulty will increase with each year of the program. Students who invest sufficient time and energy in their studies are more likely to achieve success in the program. Due to the high level of technology use in the program, students are strongly recommended to be fully conversant in computer use and Microsoft Office programs prior to enrolment. Progression Meeting the Admission Requirements is the first step in the selection process. However, students may also be required to meet additional criteria in order to gain admission into the program. Students are responsible for familiarizing themselves with the selection criteria. In addition, students must achieve a minimum letter grade of C (63-66 per cent) in an accounting course that is a prerequisite to a subsequent course, for both the financial and management accounting course streams. Credentials Upon successful completion of this program, graduates will receive a SAIT Bachelor of Business Administration (Accounting) baccalaureate degree. Accreditation The Bachelor of Business Administration degree is recognized as meeting the degree requirements of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Alberta, the Certified General Accountants of Alberta, and the Certified Management Accountants of Alberta. Students who intend to pursue a professional accounting designation after completing the degree should contact the accounting association(s) directly to verify specific requirements. Tuition And Fees (Subject To Change) To be announced Books And Supplies (Subject To Change) - Books and supplies are approximately $1,000 – $1,500 per full-time year.

Program Outline - The program will begin in September 2011 with second year courses being offered beginning September 2012, third year courses beginning September 2013 and fourth year courses beginning September 2014.
