Program Description Bachelor of Applied Technology Information Systems integrates theory and practice in management and advanced technical skills to help graduates succeed in the demanding field of information technology. Students take core studies to provide common background in management and business principles, and then begin a Network Management major which includes theory, lab, project courses and two paid practicum in the workplace. The Network Management major teaches students about the architecture, design, management and testing of today’s powerful network systems. Your Career - Graduates maintain, design, implement, troubleshoot and manage computer networks for corporations.
Admission Requirements - To qualify for the Network Management major, applicants must have a two-year computer science diploma or a four-year degree in computer science from a recognized educational institution. In addition, all of the selection criteria (see below) must be met before admission to the program will be considered.
- All applicants to SAIT Polytechnic must demonstrate English Language Proficiency prior to admission, including students educated in Canada. For more information, please see English Proficiency.
Selection To be included in selection, applications and all supporting documents must be submitted. Selection Criteria Applicants to the Network Management major should have education in the following areas: - A two-year diploma or a four-year degree in computer science or closely related field with a minimum GPA of 2.7/4.0.
- Operating systems course with emphasis on Linux/Windows.
- Courses covering topics included in Cisco CCNA 1-4.
- Course that provides basic networking protocols and a basic understanding of TCP/IP protocols.
- Oracle/SQL based course.
- Introductory Programming course based on a procedure programming language such as “C”, C++, “JAVA”, etc.
Applicants will need to provide the following information: Resume and References: - Two letters of reference (can be from instructors, employers, or co-workers).
- A letter that states your “intent” why you want to come into the program and what you will do with the degree upon graduation.
- Current personal resumé.
- Degree Application (will be emailed once you have applied to the program).
- An applicant’s file will be reviewed once all documents have been submitted.
Student Success Students with higher grades usually experience more success in SAIT’s programs. Progression Students must attain a PGPA and/or a CGPA of 2.0 or better in each semester and pass the necessary prerequisite courses to progress through the program. To qualify for graduation, students must pass all courses, attain a CGPA of 2.0 or better and complete course requirements within the prescribed timelines. Credentials After successfully completing this program, graduates will receive a Bachelor of Applied Technology Information Systems degree. Tuition And Fees (Subject To Change) Books And Supplies (Subject To Change) - Books and supplies are approximately $1,200 per year.
