The first reunion took place in Calgary, thirty-seven years after graduation. “At this reunion, we were privileged to have as our guest, Mr. A.T. Miller — one of our former instructors,” said Turner. “To our delight he took us on a tour of our old workshops at SAIT.” Since then they have met in various places including Kamloops, Drumheller, Nelson and Golden. This year’s celebration brought eight of them together in Cranbrook, BC where they visited the railway museum, walked around the Bavarian Plaza in Kimberley and toured the Heritage Village at Forte Steele.

40th anniversary celebrated on campus | | | photo by Stephanie Moore | For 40 years students have been coming to SAIT to study cinema, television, stage, radio, broadcasting, film and video production, and new media. This long-time achievement was celebrated on campus with more than 300 TSR, CTSR, RTBN, FVP and NMPD alumni on May 2, 2009. The event was themed around the four generations of the program. There was food and memorabilia from the 1970s. 80s, 90s, and the 2000s. Guests were particularly impressed by the Cheese Whiz-stuffed celery and the pigs in a blanket from the 1970s table and the sushi and baklava from the 1990s table. Posters, DVDs, VHS tapes, CDs, cassette tapes and even a couple of 8-tracks could be seen around the room. Guests gathered to get their class photos taken and had a fabulous time reconnecting with old classmates and instructors. The big announcement of the evening was the creation of a new endowment award in honour of Dick Bourne, who helped expand the programs bringing them to the place they are today. To recognize Bourne’s indelible mark and tremendous dedication to the SAIT community, the Bourne Media Technology Award will be handed out annually to three SAIT students from the School of ICT.
