General Information on Awards

Types of Awards
SAIT offers more than 3,250 awards to its students, with most falling into one of the following four categories: Entrance, General, School-Nominated and Government. - Entrance awards are designated for students who are beginning a new program. In some instances they are program-specific and in others, students in all programs may apply.
- General awards are undesignated awards that, in most circumstances, any student in any program may apply if they meet the criteria outlined in this guide.
- School-Nominated Awards are awards that are designed by department and are program specific. Contact your Academic Chair for more information on applying online. SAIT awards take the form of bursaries, prizes or scholarships.
Bursary – Financial need is the primary criteria used for selection, however, other criteria may also be included. Prize – Non-cash awards including such items as plaques, medals, and prizes awarded for a specific accomplishment (academic or non-academic). Scholarship – Academic achievement is the primary selection criteria, however, other criteria may also be included such as financial need, community involvement, etc. - Government Funded awards are issued directly by the government. All details on these awards can be found at the Alberta Learning Information Service website.

Award Criteria SAIT awards are given based in whole or in part on the following criteria: - Academic Achievement – A pre-determined Grade Point Average (GPA).
- Financial Need – Financial need is determined by comparing a student’s income and expenses for the academic year. Students receiving student loans may still be considered in financial need.
- Community Involvement – Participation in community events, volunteer commitments with non-profits and/or charities, and involvement in extracurricular activities such as sports, or church is important to include in your application.
Please note: Some awards may include additional criteria as specified by the donor. Some examples may include your family status, your heritage or your chosen profession. Please read through the guide carefully to ensure that you meet all of the criteria and apply only for the awards for which you are eligible.

Award FAQ's Q: If I win an award – how will I know? A: SAIT Alumni and Development will notify students selected for awards within four months of the application deadline. Recipients will receive e-mail, telephone or written notification as to when the award may be obtained. Q: Who may apply? A: If you are enrolled at SAIT as a continuous, full-time student or apprentice you may be eligible to apply. There are exceptions for part-time and distance learning students that are outlined in the guide, so please review the criteria carefully. Q: I'm an international student – am I eligible? A: Yes, students who are citizens of countries other than Canada and who have been accepted at SAIT on a student visa are eligible for SAIT student awards. International students should contact the SAIT International Student Advisor for details on other awards that are directed specifically to international students unless otherwise stated in the criteria.
Please note: All awards, amounts and numbers of awards, as listed in the guide, are subject to receipt of funding. In the event of program cancellation, awards will be reallocated to a program area designated by Alumni and Development. If there is a discrepancy between the published award criteria or value, and the official award documentation located in the alumni and development department, the official documentation is deemed accurate.
