The School of Transportation, or Motor Mechanics as it was known in 1916, is SAIT's original discipline. The school has grown from three courses and a handful of students to a comprehensive provider of programming ranging from heavy mechanics to automotive, rail and aircraft. Career training is offered in seven certificate and diploma programs, seven apprenticeship trades and over 40 courses for skills upgrading and career advancement. The School spans four campuses in the province of Alberta. Within these campuses we have several state-of-the-art facilities including the Centre for Rail Training and Technology and two RV Excellence Centres, one in Calgary and one in Edmonton. SAIT is also the Western Canadian campus for the Canadian Automotive Institute’s Business Administration - Automotive Management diploma. In 2004, the school acquired a new training centre for aerospace technology. The Art Smith Aero Centre for Training and Technology (located at the Calgary Airport) gives aviation students hands-on training in aerospace careers.
