The Pre-Employment Automotive Service and Heavy Equipment Technician program is essentially a blend of the first year of the Automotive Service Technician (ASTP) and Heavy Equipment Technician (HET) apprenticeship programs. This program will provide you with excellent preparation for a shortened apprenticeship in either trade. During this program, you will learn the basic repair and maintenance of drivelines, suspension systems, air and hydraulic brake systems, and some electrical systems for automotive vehicles, light and heavy trucks. What are the benefits of this program? If you are finding it difficult to find an employer to indenture you as an apprentice at this time, this program offers you an alternate route to still get your start in the either one of these trades. Upon successful completion of the Pre-Employment Automotive Service and Heavy Equipment Technician program you will have completed your first period educational requirements in both the Automotive Service Technician and Heavy Equipment Technician trades. This may in turn better equip you in your search for an employer to indenture you for the remainder of your training. What are the admission requirements? A high school transcript or equivalent, with a pass mark in Applied Math 20, English Language Arts 20-1 or 20-2, and a minimum level 20 Science. Alternately, a successful passing mark on the Alberta Apprenticeship Entrance Exam is also accepted. All applicants to SAIT Polytechnic must demonstrate English Language Proficiency prior to admission, including students educated in Canada. What are my expected costs?
