Industrial Track Inspection Re-Examination (On-line) The Industrial Track Inspection Re-Examination (On-line) is presently under development by SAIT in cooperation with Alberta Transportation and industry advisory representatives. Available since fall 2006, the new re-examination will permit railway operators to register their workers who have cards about to expire or have recently expired with SAIT, administer the on-line examination on company premises with company supervision, and issue documentation with company signature authorization. Rail Car Safety and Securement This introductory course is intended for personnel working with or around railcars including managers, members of safety and health committees. The course will familiarize them with the basic components and systems associated with rail operations and enable them to work safely and efficiently around static rail cars. Industrial Railway Switchman Designed to meet the needs of operating employees of industrial switching facilities that operate only on their own track. Course Content: - Explain the purpose of Crew Resource Management (CRM) training in the railway industry; Commitment to Safety, S.O.F.A. Lifesavers Canadian Railway Operating Rules (CROR)
- Describe track as it relates to railway operations
- Describe railcars as it relates to railway operations
- Explain the operation of the freight car air brake system(s)
- Describe the requirements and procedures for securing cars and locomotives to prevent unintended movement as well as the devices to prevent mishaps should unintended movement occur.
Duration: 16 hours or 2 days Industrial Locomotive Operator Designed for personnel involved in or supervising the operation of locomotives or track mobile. Course Content: - Explain the purpose of Crew Resource Management (CRM) training in the railway industry; Commitment to Safety, S.O.F.A. Lifesavers
- Canadian Railway Operating Rules (CROR)
- Identify and explain the interrelated systems of a locomotive
- Outline the procedures for starting and shutting down a locomotive diesel engine, and moving and stopping a locomotive
- Diagnose and report on conditions that cause abnormal locomotive operation
Duration: 16 hours approx. or 2-days plus 8 hours or 1-day OJT recommended Prerequisite: Industrial Railway Switchman Trackmobile / Rail Car Mover Operator Designed for personnel operating in an industrial or tourist environment, short line, national or international operation.
