Training for the Future

The Southern Alberta Institute of Technology, Canada’s first technical institute, is now providing premiere technology training solutions for the railway industry with the opening of its Centre for Rail Training and Technology (CRTT).  Today, Canada’s railway is faced with many exciting challenges, and SAIT has positioned itself to work side by side with industry to meet those challenges.  A unique collaboration with industry members including Canadian Pacific Railway (CPR) has allowed SAIT to offer a wide range of programs and courses in railway technologies.

The CRTT offers modern, state-of-the-practice facilities, such as: a signal lab; centralized traffic control panels; dual control switches, regular switches and track setups; air brake lab and simulator; mini-rail yard with 300' of track; several rail cars with related air braking equipment; a locomotive simulator lab; as well as traditional classrooms.

The Training You Need
SAIT delivers training solutions that are flexible, cost-effective, and practical.  Most importantly, they’re designed to give you the training you need, when you need it, and how you need it.

  • Mechanical:  rolling stock and motive power
  • Transportation:  train operation and control/dispatch

The benefit to you: a skilled worker is a safe and productive worker.

There is a demand in the railway industry for a workforce that can master new technologies and skills, and adapt to structural change.  New employees who plan to make a career in railways as professional railroaders are crucial to the success of the industry.  Our programs are designed to meet the needs of industry.  Our training solutions can provide improvements in the following areas; safety performance, reduced training costs, customer satisfaction, operations efficiencies, employee self-confidence and morale, and improved financial results.

Operations as a System
From tracks and signals, to cars and locomotives, to operations and control – all aspects of the railway operations system are interconnected.  The performance of one relies on the performance of the other.  System performance relies on the performance of the workers.  Training is an investment in that system.  It’s an investment in your employees, who are an integral part of your operation.
