This program is an excellent way to get started in the Millwright trade. Over the course of this 24 week program, you will learn the skills and theory taught in the first and second period of the Millwright apprenticeship program. Upon successful completion and once you have found an employer, you may be eligible to register as an apprentice in the Millwright apprenticeship program. This program is offered in the Fall from August 30, 2011 - February 24, 2012, as well as in the Winter from January 3, 2012 - June 22, 2012. What are the benefits of this program? If you are finding it difficult to find an employer to indenture you as an apprentice at this time, this program offers you an alternate route to still get your start in the Millwright trade. Upon successful completion of the Millwrighting Technician program you will have completed your first and second period educational requirements of this trade. This may in turn better equip you in your search for an employer to indenture you for the remainder of your training. What skill sets are important when considering a career in the Millwright trade? If you choose a career as a Millwright, you'll need the following characteristics: problem-solving capabilities, physical strength and stamina, good hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity, the ability to visualize a layout by looking at plans and blueprints, and the ability to troubleshoot mechanical systems. What are the admission requirements? To enter this program, you must have at least successfully completed Alberta Grade 11, with a passing mark in English 20-1 or 20-2, Pure Math 20 or Applied Math 20, and a 20-level Science (Science 20 or 24, Biology 20, Chemistry 20 or Physics 20); or equivalent. Alternately, a passing mark on the Alberta apprenticeship entrance exam will also be accepted. All applicants to SAIT Polytechnic must demonstrate English Language Proficiency prior to admission, including students educated in Canada. What are my expected costs? (*subject to change) - Tuition fees for the 2011-12 year are approximately $2,280*
