The School of Manufacturing and Automation offers a variety of hobbyist continuing education courses that you may enjoy on evenings and weekends.  For a full description of the course, to check for prerequisites, and to register please click on the course that interests you below.  Examples of the work that students have completed are listed under each course. Weld-a-saurus This course covers basic non-structural welding skills. Welding safety, oxyacetylene cutting and metal arc welding are covered while constructing a 3D steel ornament.

Ornamental Metal Works I & II Have you ever dreamed of having a beautiful iron gate? How about vines climbing on an iron trellis? Why not build your own?  This course provides an introduction to ornamental metalwork in part I and an opportunity to complete more advanced projects in part II.  Layout and assembly, hot work and cold bending, MIG welding and oxyacetylene torch work are all taught.

Blacksmithing for Beginners & Blacksmithing II: Forging Ahead Basic Techniques for producing various projects" garment hooks, candle holders, BBQ forks, or fireplace pokers.  Explore modern and traditional methods. The second course picks up where the first leaves off. You can further develop your blacksmithing skills through creative projects such as an ornamental horse head, a trivet, an ornamental coat hook or a boot scraper.

Gunsmithing - Basic Machine Work This course involves fundamental techniques for machine tool practice as they relate to gunsmithing. Activities include profiling, chambering barrel blanks, and mounting the action the students choose.  This course provides students with hands-on experience with the basic tools of the machinist trade.
