SAIT Global Communications Centre
The lines between information technology and telecommunications are converging into a booming industry with boundless opportunities. The $25-million SAIT Global Communications Centre of Applied Technology will provide training and applied research and development infrastructure for this new information and communications technology (ICT) industry. It will be a world-class facility designed to address the urgent need for skilled knowledge workers in Canada. As a technology demonstration site, it will also help sustain growth opportunities in this emerging industry. The Centre is the collaborative work of SAIT, the Alberta Science and Research Authority, and a cross section of ICT industry partners. Renovations on the third floor of the John Ware Building are complete for the first phase of the SAIT Global Communications Centre. Phase two is now completed with an 80 000 square foot facility in the ICT wing of the new SAIT Heart Building. State of the art computer and networking laboratories are used for three SAIT customers: high level education to technology students, Fast Track training to career changers and Advanced Technical Training to industry. Research projects in grid computing and the wireless areas are ongoing in our "sandbox.
