Alberta Bison Association Since 1998 the Bison Association has been providing free product so that culinary students will learn about the muscle structure and cutting process of bison. The product is sold in SAIT's retail outlet and served in "The Highwood". The objectives of the partnership include increasing awareness of bison in the retail sector, learning preparation techniques and developing new recipes and marketing at special occasions and international functions. Alliance of Canadian Travel Associations (ACTA) This national partnership results in SAIT Polytechnic delivering accredited senior and management level training for the CTC and CTM certifications. Travel and Tourism also facilitates management upgrading seminars. Faculty members are active in the "Association" and students attend industry seminars, trade shows and conferences. The national partnership gives SAIT Polytechnic a voice in terms of changes to the National Education Standards policies as well as decisions affecting travel in Canada. Alberta Food Processors Association (AFPA) The School of Hospitality and Tourism works cooperatively with AFPA to evaluate Alberta made products and to identify future training requirements in the food processing industry. American Hotel and Motel Association Educational Institute (AHMA) Our joint programs give you rewards all along the way to your final destination. Successful completion of the required courses leads to our certificates and prepares you for the AHMA exams. Big Rock Brewery Ltd. Since 1998, Big Rock Brewery Ltd., had been providing a day-long training program for all "Professional Cooking" students (180 per year). Their training program was especially created for our students, demonstrating the brewing process. Big Rock Brewery supports student training by means of financial donations that is allocated to the purchase of state-of-the-art beverage equipment. Hospitality 100 Club In 1990 The Hospitality 100 Club was inaugurated as a unique partnership between industry and education. For an annual membership fee, up to 100 representatives of the hospitality industry and their guests attend two exclusive gourmet events in The Highwood. The Club provides assistance to students to attend competitions, to secure educational discounts on equipment, and the opportunity to participate in domestic and international Culinary Arts study tours. The Club also provides opportunities for Alberta manufacturers to profile new food products to peers, faculty and students. The Club provides a setting that encourages an informal exchange of ideas between hospitality professionals and educators for the benefit of students and the industry. Hotel and Catering International Management Association (HCIMA) The Hospitality Management Diploma Program is professionally accredited by the HCIMA. Lindt MAITRE CHOCOLATIER Lindt partners with SAIT Polytechnic in the Baking and Pastry Arts Program, and is actively involved in SAIT's bi-annual Lindt Chocolate Competition. MIWE, Germany MIWE, a manufacturer of baking equipment, provided SAIT Polytechnic's School of Hospitality and Tourism with a significant discount on its latest baking ovens. As a result, SAIT Polytechnic has become the test site and demonstration centre for the German company Aromat and Deck ovens. City Bakery has now joined this training and marketing alliance. SAIT Polytechnic's Baking and Pastry Arts students are able to access its specialty bread lines and learn to use its computerized baking ovens. The Pastry Chef's Guild of Ontario and Alberta The Pastry Chef's Guild works closely with SAIT Polytechnic and the Baking and Pastry Arts Program, providing information in industry trends, recipes, events, hospitality jobs and upcoming classes and courses. "The Guild's" objectives is to promote and maintain the high standards in the Baking and Pastry Arts industry and inspire the culinary arts students across Canada to excel in their search for success. Robin Hood Multi-Foods The company provides free product for use in Culinary Arts classes and makes financial contributions towards capital equipment and facility upgrading. SAIT Polytechnic's baking facilities are used by Robin Hood to test new products and to carry out product promotion to its clients. This partnership has been in effect since 1994. Southern Alberta Bakers Association In 1993 School of Hospitality and Tourism and the Southern Alberta Bakers Association (SABA) created Breadfest, an annual event to promote the nutritional value of fresh bread based upon the Canada Food Guide to Healthy Eating. With its success has come the development of annual SABA scholarships for Baking and Pastry Arts students. STAMM International, Holland In 1999 SAIT Polytechnic became the North American test site for the latest STAMM International baking technology in shock freezing and retarding/proofing. SAIT Polytechnic provides marketing and demonstrations along with the training on the technology. The site also allows testing of a variety of food products beyond baking, thus improving the School of Hospitality and Tourism's profile in the food-manufacturing sector. Students and faculty gain "hands-on" experience on this latest technology. SWEDA Canada Ltd. SWEDA Canada Inc., was a major contributor of the The Highwood's touch screen point-of-sale system. The system is an integral part of the operation. In the fall of 1998 SWEDA Canada donated the use of 4 touch screen terminals (valued at approx. $5,000 each), peripheral equipment, point-of-sale software and training time for the staff and instructional team, and not least gratis maintenance. This joint effort was put in place so that, students would be able to experience an up-to-date Micros POS system, used in the Food Service Industry in a hands - on environment. Encompassing many training aspects, from "back of the house" (Professional Cooking students) to "front of the house" (Professional Cooking & Hospitality Management students) and on to management, SAIT Polytechnic would in turn be available to SWEDA to tour their potential customers, while show casing The Highwood.
