Application Process and Selection When should I apply for your programs? Know when to apply. Apply beginning November 1 for programs beginning in the fall semester. Apply beginning August 1 for programs beginning in January. Selection timelines vary and some programs will have ongoing selection sessions or may start selection at a later date. Please review the selection criteria for your program of interest to find out more about Selection and Early Admission. What is the fax number for transcripts and applications for Customer Services? The fax number is 403.284.7112. What happens if I don't have a prerequisite course? SAIT offers upgrading classes that will fit into your busy schedule during the day, evening and on weekends. Academic upgrading is available. Telephone: 403.284.8915 for further information. I have post-secondary training and other relevant education. Will these marks count? You will need to apply for the program and enter the first year as a regular student. After applying you may submit your transcripts from previous education for assessment to attain credits for courses that you already have taken. Like any good career, you need a solid base to begin from. The best "solid" base for our programs is the education you received from high school. Where do I find out what equivalencies for my admission requirements if I am from a different province? The Alberta Council on Admissions and Transfers will provide information on course equivalencies. What is a mature student? A mature student is a person who is over the age of 18, who has been out of school for one year, does not need a high school diploma but does need the academic pre-requisites in order to considered for selection. Why are the quotas (available seats) for some programs so low? - Most of our programs accommodate less than 50 students per year. Some are much less.
- The number of seats available is often based on the number of clinical practicum sites available for students.
- The amount of up-to-date equipment (and the funds to purchase them) can limit the amount of students we can accept.
- Student safety is always a consideration.
How will I know if my application was successful? SAIT Customer Services will notify applicants as to their progress in the selection process. We highly recommend that you apply to more than one program of interest to ensure your success. What happens to applications from one year to the next? Each year we have a new competition for the seats in the program. You must resubmit your application. This gives you an opportunity to improve your application for the next year. When are interviews normally held? If your program requires interviews as part of the selection process, these may be held at various times depending on your program. Please review the selection process for your program. (Note: Not all programs require interviews.) Do Alberta residents get priority for selection in SAIT programs? Applicants are reviewed based on their academic average. For each program, the selection criteria may vary. Are there seats offered to students from different provinces? Some programs recruit students so they will return close to home for their practicum (fieldwork placement). This includes Respiratory Therapy, Diagnostic Medical Sonography and Nuclear Medicine Technology. What programs can I take by Distance Education or part time in the Health and Public Safety sector? SAIT's School of Health and Public Safety offers the Sterile Processing Technician program through Distance Education. Additional certificates are available such as Ophthalmic Assistant, and Health the Fundamentals Certificate. Individual courses in health fundamentals are also available. Students will require a personal computer with Internet access for these courses. Do I get my application fee and/or deposit money back if I decide not to take the program? See Program refunds. What is the likelihood that I will find a job in a related field after graduation? Our health program statistics can be found in Graduate Employment Statistics which is posted annually on our website. High Demand Programs The following are high demand programs: Many of these programs receive over 4 times the number of applications than seats available. Applications not meeting the basic prerequisites are not be considered. What is the average mark for successful applicants to these programs? This may change year to year depending on the amount of applications and the quality of those applications. For example, one year could have an average of 85% and the next year could be 78%. What are my chances of getting into the Diagnostic Imaging programs? Applicants are screened based on high school prerequisites, work and volunteer experience, career investigation (research) and references. We have had candidates who were successful in getting into the programs with marks in the 70's or better. These candidates have thoroughly researched the career and have a strong history of working with people. How can I improve my chances of getting into the program of my choice? - increase pre-requisite average (academic ability).

International Students and ESL Can International Students apply for programs in the School of Health and Public Safety? Yes, seats are offered to international students in some programs. They must first take the Canadian Language Benchmark to assess their English skills. A score of “8” must be attained in all categories of this test. Please note: special tuition fees apply. I come from outside of Canada. How do I get credit for previous work or education so I can apply to the program of my choice? This is a requirement for all SAIT programs. English proficiency is successful completion of the named prerequisite English course or equivalent, PLUS at least three years of formal full-time study at an English designated secondary school or post-secondary institution in an English speaking country which SAIT recognizes as English language proficiency exempt. What is are TOEFL or Canadian Language Benchmarks (CLBA)? The CLBA measures English proficiency in listening, speaking, reading, and writing. TOEFL or CLBA are tests give to foreign students to access their English ability in regards to reading, writing and listening and writing. Proof on application of a minimum score of eight in Canadian Language Benchmarks Assessment (CLBA) in all categories. (The required score may be higher in some programs).
