The School of Construction hosted its 15th Annual Golf Classic in Support of Education on Thursday, August 26, 2010 at the Cottonwood Golf and Country Club. Many staff, friends, and industry guests were in attendance for the shotgun round and great weather was enjoyed by all. The funds raised will go towards student scholarships in the areas of highest need. A big thank you goes to all of the event organizers and volunteers. We look forward to the 16th annual tournament next year! SAIT experienced tremendous success through high enrolments in this year's summer camps. In the School of Construction, students in grades seven through nine took part in Builder's Tech: Computer Home Design. In the camp, the students designed their own houses and subdivision using AutoCAD and SketchUp software taught by one of SAIT's Architectural Technology students. Using a 3D printer, the campers got to take home a scaled down model of their design at the end of the week. WorldSkills 2009 certainly helped to raise awareness about a career in the trades among youth in our province. A Calgary filmmaker has even created a documentary about apprentices training for and competing at last year's WorldSkills. Now, SAIT's very own Tim Twa - a fourth year electrical apprentice - is preparing to compete in WorldSkills 2011 in London. Click here to read a related article in the Calgary Sun.
