The Leaner-Centre Environment Be Part of the Team The instructional team at SAIT is dedicated to guiding, coaching, facilitating and mentoring students along their path of learning and self-discovery. Established educational methods are blended with innovative approaches to develop problem-solving and analytical skills. Students are expected and challenged to actively expand their knowledge foundations, further their own personal growth and professional development as they expand their interpersonal skills. We place the student at the centre of education in the learner centred environment. Learning is the student’s responsibility and the instructor’s responsibility is to facilitate the student’s education. The approach is individualistic, competency-based, centered on problem solving and varied in delivery. Students who are self-motivated and self-disciplined with a higher sense of personal responsibility excel in this environment. In this course-based program you will actively participate in creating your own knowledge by a variety of means including, but not limited to: Collaborative group learning Individual research Scenario-based problem solving Interactive web-based learning Hands-on field-based activities Self-paced tutorials Learning in the Bachelor of Applied Technology Geographic Information Systems program takes place in two dedicated 24-seat spatial technology labs with a dual-screen desktop computer for each student. Augmented with the expertise of 4 full-time GIS instructors as well as various members of industry, you will develop competency in state-of-practice applications of GIS technology in a safe and collaborative environment. Full time students complete the academic component of the program in two, four-month semesters followed by a 960 hour work experience practicum.
