Construction Management Certificate of Achievement    Launching Online in July 2012

The Construction Management Certificate of Achievement will provide the technical background for a management role in the construction industry. In July 2012, SAIT will be launching this Certificate of Achievement online, where students can work at home, and at work at their own pace.

This Certificate of Achievement is designed for part-time students working as project administrators, technicians, planners or supervisors in the construction field considering a move to Construction Management. Graduates from the Construction Management Certificate of Achievement will build on their existing construction experience and learn fundamental skills to qualify for a variety of entry level manger, trades supervisor, and estimator positions.

Choose your own path! Learn the basics in our five foundational courses; Reading Plans and Specifications, Building Codes, Contracts, Construction Safety, and Technical Communications. Next, specialize in the industry of your choice; Residential or Commercial.

AUTOCAD TRAINING SERIES

Learn to produce 2D and 3D drawings on a Computer Aided Design and Drafting (CADD) using AutoCAD software. This intensive course includes all the content from AutoCAD Levels I, II and III.

Start by learning the basics of AutoCAD such as user interface, commands, system variables, AutoCAD drawings, drawing theory, initial settings, drawing objects, constructing and editing 2D geometry, correcting errors, object verification, measurement, controlling graphic display, grids, text, layers, and object symbology.

You can advance quickly to producing more sophisticated 2D drawings and learn how to complete grips, crosshatching advanced measurement, utility commands, blocks, special entities, advanced settings, viewports, advanced text, dimensioning, reference files, polylines, printing and plotting. You will complete this intensive series by learning to create 3D models and multiview drawings, being able to complete isometric drawing, drawing with extrusions, XYZ point filters, world and user coordinate systems, 3D wireframes, viewing 3D models, model and paper space, creating and scaling views, setting view layer visibility, constructing multiview drawings, surfacing with vertex defined meshes and polygon meshes.

Students are required to purchase the mandatory course materials at the SAIT Bookstore.

CSA standards is providing certification for individuals who are qualified construction electricians that install and maintain solar photovoltaic (PV) power generation systems and equipment for use in settings such as industrial, commercial, institutional, power generation, and residential settings in compliance with appropriate codes, standards, and industry best practices. This 45 hours course will help to prepare students to write the certification exam by providing the theoretical knowledge and obtain hands on experience for successful installation of Grid Tied and Battery Backup Solar PV Systems.

Home Inspection Certification
Recent changes to the Alberta Fair Trading Act which introduced the Home Inspection Business Regulation now require Home Inspectors to be licensed in order to engage in a home inspection business.  In order to become a licensed Home Inspector you must have:

  • Obtained a degree, diploma or certificate in home inspection from an approved educational institute, and
  • Completed a test inspection supervised by an approved educational institution or a licensed home inspector.*

The province of Alberta has recognized companies and individuals who have already received their Certified Master Inspector designation granted by the Master Inspector Certification Board or Registered Home Inspector designation granted by the Canadian Association of  Home and Property Inspectors.

Conditional licenses can be granted to individuals. A conditional license will be valid until March 31, 2013,*

ARCH 125 - Building Green with LEED: Core Concepts and Strategies
Develop a working knowledge of core concepts and strategies to reduce the environmental impact of the built environment in Canada. This course highlights how these core concepts and strategies can be used in various LEED ® rating systems and provides a comprehensive overview of techniques, approaches, materials and technologies used in creating greener buildings and communities. This course is suitable for anyone interested in developing a basic understanding of LEED®; students interested in pursuing a LEED® Green Associate certification will find that this course provides an excellent foundation on which to begin preparing for the exam.

Civil 3D Fundamentals: Now Open for Registration!

This course will introduce you to the fundamentals of this industry-standard software.  You will learn to use the AutoCAD Civil 3D software to facilitate the design and drafting of Civil and Survey Engineering tasks including:  Civil 3D Interface, Points, Surfaces, Assignments, Existing and Finished Ground Profiles, Assemblies, Corridors, Cross Sections and Quantity Takeoff.  Previous AutoCAD experience is strongly recommended for this course.

AVEVA PDMS Fundamentals (ENGD 175)

AVEVA PDMS is a powerful design application that can be used effectively across globally distributed project teams, for the smallest refit or the largest green field project. The upgraded technology and data structures in AVEVA PDMS provide a strong, extensible platform for its enhanced applications, increasing productivity, providing simple upgrade paths and making PDMS even easier to adopt.

Date: April 14 - May 12, 2012
Time:  8:00 am - 5:00 pm, Saturday

During this course, you will:

  • Produce 3D Process Equipment and Piping Design using the AVEVA PDMS Design Module.
  • From P&ID's you will be able to create and manipulate 3D models of all the significant parts of a process plant, allowing you to simulate a detailed model including: elbows, tees, flanges, valves, vessels, exchangers and pumps and pipe routes.
