Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society

What is the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society?
An honour society recognizes excellence among peers. Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) is the largest honour society in higher education, serving 1,250 two-year colleges around the world and offering exclusive programs and benefits to its members. Chapters of Phi Theta Kappa have been recognizing and encouraging academic excellence and leadership in North America and abroad since 1918.
SAIT became a chartered Society of PTK in May, 2010, and was given the chapter name, Beta Sigma Tau. SAIT is only the third Canadian institution and the first Canadian polytechnic to be chartered into Phi Theta Kappa.

Who can become a member?
Eligibility requirements for membership include a grade point average of 3.8 or higher at the completion of four semester-length courses. There is a one-time membership fee of $85.00, offering membership at a local, regional and international level.

Why should I become a member?
Membership in PTK means you are a part of a special group of college scholars. PTK not only recognizes the academic achievements of students, but offers a variety of opportunities both academically and in the community, including:

  • Exclusive scholarships
  • Online transfer tools for universities and other post-secondary institutions
  • Educational seminars and conferences
  • Networking with fellow scholars at home and around the world
  • Business skills development
  • Community initiatives at SAIT and in the community at large

How will my membership be recognized?
Your academic excellence is recognized by a SAIT certificate, Golden Key membership pin, gold-embossed membership certificate and membership ID card, all of which you will receive upon induction into the SAIT Chapter.
Members in good standing are also recognized at the SAIT graduation ceremony.

For more details on PTK, visit Phi Theta Kappa online. For information on membership, induction or SAIT Chapter activities, please send an email or call 403.284.7111.
