How do I apply?
To apply:

  1. Complete all portions of the application; including your signature if applying on a paper application.

  2. Submit your high school transcript and post secondary transcript if you have attended a post-secondary institute. Applications submitted without a transcript will not be processed until the transcript is received.

  3. If your documents are from outside Canada you must have them translated into English and must have had a foreign evaluation completed. Please refer to the academic calendar for more information.

When do I apply?
SAIT accepts applications for each intake up to the class start dates. However, to meet selection deadlines it is best to apply within the suggested applications dates as indicated below:

  • September Intake: Suggested application date: November 1. Selection commences March 1.

  • January Intake: Suggested application date August 1. Selection commences November 1.

What are my upgrading options?
For upgrading options please call 403.284-8915 or 403.284.4045.

I am an international student; where can I find more information?
International students please refer to the International Student Centre.

I am transferring from another institution; what should I know?
Transfer student from other colleges and universities must provide us with official transcripts from the prior learning institution along with a full time application form to be considered for prior credits. For more information please visit the PLAR office.

What are the employment statistics for SAIT's Business grads?

Incoming or First-Time Students

When can I add or drop a class?
The add/drop periods for each semester are published in the academic calendar. View the current Academic Calendar online.

Where do I find my booklist?
Booklists are available online at www.sait.ca/bookstore. Copies of the booklist are available at your orientation session. You may wish to purchase some of your books prior to the first day of classes. However, do not write your name on your books or otherwise mark them in any way, until your instructor has confirmed that youve bought the correct books. It is important to keep your receipts for returning materials.

Why do I need a SAIT laptop?
Students enrolled in one of our laptop program (Business Administration Diploma and Administrative Information Management) are required to use a SAIT laptop. All the software required for your program is uploaded to the SAIT laptop. Technical support is provided by SAIT for students in the laptop program.

Can I change my course schedule?
Students who wish to change their course schedule must wait until the add/drop period. Changes can be made only with the approval of the Academic Coordinator. Students wishing to switch their entire block schedule must find a student in the other block to switch with them. Changes can also be made online.

How do I set up my schedule?
Students are automatically registered into the semester courses, in case of any changes thereof the student must meet with the Students Services Coordinator or the Academic Coordinator to put together a suitable timetable.

When can I view my schedule?
You can view your schedule online at mysait.ca as follows:

  • For classes starting in September, your schedule is available online at the beginning of August
  • For classes starting in January, your schedule is available at the beginning of December

I am a first year student: how do I register for my courses?
Students are automatically registered into their first year courses. Changes to your schedule can only be made during the add/drop period which takes place during the first two weeks of classes.

I am having problems with Mysait.ca password - who do I contact?

How do I withdraw from a class?
The withdrawal deadline for courses is prior to 70% of the course duration. A student who wishes to withdraw from an individual course must:

Obtain and complete an official course Withdrawal form and submit this form to Customer Services prior to the Withdrawal deadline of the term to receive a grade of W. Downloadable forms are available at http://www.mysait.ca/.

I took a semester off; can I register for more classes?
Students who have taken one semester off must complete an Intent to Return form. Students who have taken more than one semester off must reapply for admission. Both forms are downloadable at www.mysait.ca.

I've failed a course twice, can I take it again?
A student is granted only two attempts to successfully complete each course. The initial registration and one repeat. Under special circumstances approval may be granted by the Dean to register in a course for a third attempt. If the final attempt of a course is granted and results in failure, a diploma/certificate will not be issued.

How do I get credit for a course I took at another institution?
The Prior Learning and Assessment and Recognition (PLAR) office will determine credit eligibility. You must submit copies of all post-secondary transcripts (minimum 65% grade is required and courses must have been completed within the past five to seven years to be eligible for credit). Course outlines may be required for all courses for which credit is requested. For further information, please contact PLAR at 284-7025 or plar@sait.ca.

I did not finish my diploma, can I still complete it?
Any student who has not been an active student in a program for one or more calendar years must reapply. Returning students must meet any new admission, course or graduation requirements for the program. Prior Learning Assessment will assess your current standing in the program.

Where do I get a copy of my transcript?
Students can print unofficial copies of their transcripts from mySAIT. If you require an official transcript, please complete the transcript request form available at www.mysait.ca.

I'm having problems with a course; is there tutoring available?
Tutoring and study skills workshops are available through the Centre for Academic Learner Services in Room MC221 in the Heart Building or call 403.284

If I repeat a course, will both grades appear on my transcript and will they effect my GPA?
Both grades will appear on your transcript. However, only the higher grade will be factored into your GPA..7050.

I'm on academic probation, what does this mean?

  • Students who fail to achieve the specified minimum semester grade point average or cumulative program grade point average at the end of a term will be placed on Academic Probation (AP). Customer Services will notify each student in writing regarding the terms of Academic Probation.

  • A student will remain on academic probation if one of either the semester grade point average or cumulative program grade point average is not met for a second time. If both are not met for a second time, the student will be academically withdrawn.

  • The consequences of academic withdrawal include being dropped from any subsequent courses registered in the next term and being ineligible for student loan funding. Academically withdrawn students must wait 12 months before re-applying to the program they were academically withdrawn from.

  • Academic probation and withdrawals are permanently noted.

How many course do I need to be a full time student? Are there benefits?
To be a fulltime student you must maintain a minimum of 12 credits per semester. This is a requirement for you to be eligible for full time students benefits. Example: C-Train Pass, Health Benefits Plan etc.

I missed an exam due to illness. What should I do?
You will need to print off a copy of the physician statement which is found under the FORMS section of Mysait.ca. You must then have it filled out and signed by your physician and present it to your instructor or Academic Chair as soon as possible.

I missed an exam due to family emergency or religious holliday. What should I do?
Please provide a document that supports this claim to the Academic Chair of your program.

Can I take classes through Continuing Education or Distance?
Yes, students can take classes through Continuing Education or Distance. Check with your Academic Coordinator to ensure the course is equivalent. Fees for Continuing Education and Distance courses are due at the time of registration and are separate from your full time tuition fees.

Students must be aware that they should be enrolled in a full course load to qualify for provincial and federal student loans and grants. To get more information on Financial Assistance or to apply, please visit www.alis.gov.ab.ca or call 403.297.6344.

Does SAIT offer scholarships and bursaries?

Does SAIT offer on-campus housing or residence?
The SAIT residence offers housing to 456 students in a 14 storey high-rise.? For information on facilities and payment go to the Student Residence page.

Does SAIT offer disability support services?
We provide a number of services to assist students with disabilities in achieving their goals. These may include academic accommodations, individualized orientation, and assistance in accessing funding for assessments, specific academic support and adaptive technology.
