How long is the BA Diploma program?
The Business Administration Diploma is a two-year full-time program, consisting of four regular semesters in total.

What credentials do you receive after completing the program?
On successful completion of this two year program you will be eligible to receive a Business Administration Diploma in one of the four majors.

What majors are available?
There are four majors: Accounting, Financial Services, Marketing, and Management. The first semester is a common semester, students choose their majors before the start of the second semester.

Can I change my major?
Yes, you can switch majors in the BA diploma. It is recommended that you speak to a student service coordinator prior to switching your major.

Can I do a double major?
Yes, you can do a double major. You will need to contact Student Services at 403-284-7248 to let them know of your intention to delay your graduation.

What does 'laptop delivery' mean?
The Business Administration diploma program is a "Technology Enhanced Program", also referred to as a laptop program. It means that all students enrolled in these programs will be issued a SAIT laptop. Every course has a support website that will be accessed in class. The instructor will also guide you to relevant website or through computer activities.

How many credits are there in total?

  • Accounting Major has 79 or 80 credits (depending on the electives chosen)

  • Financial Services has 80 credits

  • Management Major has 80 credits

  • Marketing Major has 80 credits

Admission Requirements
To be accepted into this program you must have: Alberta High School Diploma or equivalent with at least 50% pure Math 30 and English Language Arts 30-1 or their equivalents or at least 60% in English Language Arts 30/2 and Applied Math 30 or their equivalents.

Selection criteria
Seats in this program are offered in the order that qualified applications are received.

What is the GPA requirement for program succession?
The minimum SPGA (Semester Program Grade Point Average) and or a CPGPA (Cumulative Program Grade Point Average) is 2.0 or better in each semester to progress through the program. To qualify for graduation students must pass all courses and attain a CPGPA of 2.0 or better.

Transferability and accreditation

  • You must meet the GPA requirements from the accepting institute in order to transfer. Graduates with an accounting major may transfer directly into SAIT's Bachelor of Applied Business Administration in Accounting.

  • Students from the Accounting Major can continue with their degree and then ladder directly into a professional accounting designation (CGA or CMA)

  • We have a variety of transfer agreements allowing students to put their diploma towards up to 2 years of credit for a university degree.

Financial Services

A variety of entry-level opportunities in private and public sectors. To attain higher-level positions, graduates can also continue their education with our applied degree and work towards a professional accounting designation, such as CGA or CMA. Entry-level employment with banks, credit unions, insurance companies, trust companies, investment dealers, financial planners, real estate, leasing companies, and more.

Management

Marketing

A excellent foundation for self-employment, or a variety of entry-level positions in areas such as: human resources, recruitment, customer service, project management, sales, and assistant management. Entry-level employment in a variety of areas such as advertising, public relations, promotions, marketing management, merchandising, sales, special event marketing and more.

Is there a practicum?
There is no practicum as part of the BA diploma.

Fees/Books and Supplies Required
Please refer to the Tuition & Fee Table for the latest information. Books and supplies cost approximately $1,500 per year. There is a $500 refundable damage deposit required for the use of the laptop.

Total number of seats
Our January intake allows for 200 qualified students. In September 2011, the BA program will welcome 480 qualified students.  Our class size does not exceed 40 students , which ensures a student-centred approach to teaching.

Residency requirement
There is a 50% residency requirement for the BA diploma program. Students must complete a minimum of 50 % of their courses from this program to be eligible to receive the BA diploma parchment. Please contact the department for any questions: call 403.284.8485.
