		Bev Longstaff

Bev Longstaff – Calgary born and raised, Bev was elected Alderman in October 1989.  She was re-elected four times and served 12 years as a member of Council.  Prior to her election to political office, she worked in the Engineering Drafting Department at SAIT for 10 years and prior to that, worked in private industry in the engineering drafting field.

Bev was appointed Director for Calgary of the G8 Summit held in Kananaskis in June 2002.  This Summit showed the world a different way to host an international meeting, one without the violence that has plagued so many others.  Both the planning for and hosting of the Summit were a complete success, setting a new standard for how such events should be conducted. 

Bev is the recipient of the Canada 125 Medal for Community Service, the Queen’s Jubilee Medal for 2002 and the 2005 Alberta Centennial Medal.  In December 2004, Bev was appointed as Affordable Housing Advisor for the Calgary Homeless Foundation.  This position requires working with three levels of government and the community, to ensure the development or acquisition of non-market housing units.  The goal is to move people from homelessness into housing and self-sufficiency.  Bev remains committed to the betterment of her community and sits on the boards of a number of organizations.  She Chairs the Salvation Army Board of Governors and serves as Co-Chair of Homefront.  She is a Director of the Calgary Airport Authority and the United Way of Calgary.
