Top Trojan Takes Talent to Europe

Wednesday, August 10, 2011, Calgary, Alberta –After four years, three championship rings, two diplomas and one outstanding college hockey career, SAIT’s all-time leading goal-scorer is ready to begin the next chapter of his hockey legacy; one that will see the Calgary native take his talents all the way to Eastern France.

Shane Lust’s prolific college career has garnered the former Trojans’ assistant captain a professional contract with the Morzine-Avoriaz Pingouins of the 14-team Elite Magnus League in France.

The move is a big one for Lust, who has always aspired to play hockey professionally.

“When you’re younger the dream is always to be in the NHL,” says Lust. “We have four guys who were drafted to the NHL on our team, and now I have the opportunity to compete at a professional level.”

Lust isn’t counting on an easy transition to the pros, but he says he is prepared for whatever challenges his new role brings.

“It’s a high level of hockey over there, and the competition is definitely going to be a step up from SAIT” says Lust.

Lust accumulated 74 goals in four seasons at SAIT, and his 152 career points have also made it into the SAIT record books.

As an athlete, Lust came a long way with the Trojans, but his development reached beyond the ice.

“I have some great accomplishments to look back on, but it’s tough to leave. My four years at SAIT were definitely the best years of my life,” says Lust. “I’ve grown up here at SAIT, both as a person and a hockey player.”

Trojan’s Head Coach, Ken Babey, says he witnessed Lust’s growth, and believes he’s ready for the next step in his career.

“I think going to school here at SAIT has helped him mature,” says Babey. “As much as hockey has helped him on the ice, off the ice it’s what he has learned at SAIT that has made him into a more complete person and player.”

Lust isn’t the only Trojan making the jump to the professional hockey ranks next season. His teammate and line mate, Mike Ullrich will suit up for the Tulsa Oilers of the Central Hockey League for the 2011/12 season.
