SAIT Grad’s Restaurant Earns World AcclaimFriday, April 30, 2010, Calgary, Alberta – Calgary’s Rouge restaurant is the toast of the town – and the globe – after placing No. 60 on the S. Pellegrino World’s 100 Best Restaurants list. Only one other Canadian restaurant made the list, which is typically dominated by European establishments. The awards were announced April 26 in London, England. SAIT Polytechnic is proud to have a connection to that achievement. Rouge co-owner Paul Rogalski graduated in 1986 from the Professional Cooking program. He continues to give back to SAIT by serving on the Professional Cooking program advisory committee and delivering guest presentations to enhance students’ learning. Rouge executive chef Michael Dekker is one of many SAIT graduates employed by the award-winning kitchen. Dekker earned his cooking credential from SAIT in 2001. Two years ago, he was awarded second place in the prestigious international cooking competition Meilleur Jeune Commis Rôtisseur. Rouge is located in a 1891 heritage home in Inglewood. An onsite garden provides many ingredients for the menu, which specializes in local and seasonal fare.
